News today that Sasaki is going to be posted. There is probably less than 1% chance that he would come here but we could dream.

What would the pitch be, we are young and up and coming. The city will love you forever and some sort of be different and choose your own path.

My guess is the Dodgers are the favorites with Ohtani and Yomamoto, if they get Sasaki for peanuts it would really stink.

I do not agree at all.  I think he won't sign with the Dodgers or Yankees.   he cannot get paid big money because he is not 25 yet.  He dislikes major media markets and wants to sign with a team who is famous for developing pitching. The guy has said he wants a small market team with a great pitching staff and a chance to win championships.     That is the Brewers especially if they sign players like this.  Every team has the same shot at him. The big money teams do not have the advantage this time around.   It really comes down to a Manager and GM who sells him on the fit.  The Brewers have everything he wants from the MLB.   A small media footprint who will be fair to him, a fanbase who is starving for a champion, a NEED for an ace. The best pitching coach in the Bigs and a defense behind him with Gold and Platinum to keep the ERA low.   i think this might be a more realistic idea than anyone believes.   We missed Imanaga on a flip of a coin remember.  The coin flip went to the Cubs but something tells me that means its our turn.

None of that crap means anything .  Imanaga was a sure bet to go there too and he ended in Chicago right behind the Brewers who almost landed him.   This is not a sure thing.  This guy likes the situation small market teams offer for now.    I think the Brewers have a great shot at landing him. As good as any other team.

I'm just saying, I understand it's a long shot but I don't know why we wouldn't be much more in this than the typical FA situation for these types of players.

I think this is not even close to out of the realm of possibility.   The Brewers were major players in Imanaga last season and I really think this sounds like a place that would tempt Sasaki.   I do not even think it is that much of a reach or long shot.   The Brewers are a very good place for him to come.  He would be a legend here and would be loved instantly.  The boost to the fanbase and team would start this offseason aglow.  Hell the fanbase might even start believing in this franchise.   At least he has us paying attention.   I will give him that.

I think it’s more likely that America officially converts to the metric system than it is for Sasaki to come to Milwaukee. In fact, I’m not sure if many people outside the US knows about the existence of Milwaukee…

Unfortunately I don't see a scenario where he signs here. Whatever he and the team need to do to circumvent the rules, he's going to sign somewhere with an understanding that there will be a huge extension offer before he hits free agency 6 years from now. There's just too much risk otherwise to justify not waiting another 2 years to be posted. And we can't afford the kind of extension he will be looking for.

I’m guessing his primary motivation is to win World Serieses with his countrymen.

Hadn't thought about this obvious explanation for why he chose to be posted two years early, but it makes perfect sense. He wants to join the new Dodgers dynasty at its peak and is willing to add some additional risk to the $300 million pay day he would be looking at by dominating NPB for another two seasons.

What's a best-case/worst-case season(s) for this guy? How good is he?

Only real issue for Sasaki to this point has been durability with 53 games and 331 innings his last three seasons.

For comparison Yamamoto had 76 games and 557 innings in his three seasons prior to posting.

Here’s how they compare in some other categories…

Roki (331.1 IP)
437 K | 72 BB | 6.07 K/BB
11.87 K9 | 1.96 BB9
10 HR | 0.27 HR9
214 H | .177 AVG

Yoshi (557.2 IP)
587 K | 110 BB | 5.34 K/BB
9.47 K9 | 1.78 BB9
15 HR | 0.24 HR9
380 H | .185 AVG

Pretty tight across the board outside of Sasaki’s strikeout rate being on a whole other level.

So you are saying there's a chance?

I'm not getting my hopes up, but we definitely fit that narrative.

Last post I read made it sound like LAD and SD were the favorites. I always felt like he was just jerking people around to sign with LAD but SD wouldn’t be a shocker to me either.

Yup, all the talk, but in the end, we all know where he is going.

The argument that the Dodgers are going to pretty blatantly break the rules in order to get him to sign for less now is...a pretty big assumption.

And if the Dodgers did that...assuming MLB found out, that'd be a pretty significant punishment. Negating the signing for one.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard, the “Giants have been told Roki Sasaki will not sign with them.”
Sasaki and his team have entered the final stages of their prolonged off-season schedule as the 23-year-old star can sign with a team starting on Wednesday. It wouldn’t be a surprise to hear other teams begin to be eliminated from contention, but it seems like the Dodgers, Padres, and Blue Jays are the top contenders for now.

According to YES Network’s Jack Curry, Roki Sasaki told the Yankees that he would not be signing with them.
The Yankees join the Giants and Mets as a team that has been eliminated from contention for the Japanese right-hander today. The Yankees already have a full rotation plus Marcus Stroman, who they are dangling in trade talks, so this doesn’t impact the strength of their pitching in 2025, but they obviously would have liked to have signed a player as talented as Sasaki.

New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported that the Mets have been told they;re out on Roki Sasaki.
So far on Monday, Sasaki and his team have told the Mets, Yankees, and Giants that they are no longer in the running. The Mets always seemed like they’d have an uphill battle to land Sasaki, but being out of the running is a big blow for them. With Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea at the top of their rotation, the Mets could really use an ace and Sasaki is the the best option remaining on the free agent market

Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports reports the Rangers have been told they’re unlikely to sign Roki Sasaki.
The Rangers, Yankees and Giants are out of the Sasaki sweepstakes, while the Mets are also considered unlikely to sign with Japanese phenom. The Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays seem like the most logical destinations with less than 48 hours left until the international signing period opens.

Baseball America’s Ben Badler reports the Dodgers and Padres are the most likely landing spots for Roki Sasaki.
According to multiple reports, the Rangers, Yankees, Giants and Mets no longer appear to be in the mix. The Blue Jays remain the biggest X-factor left in the running since Sasaki has met with the club and there’s zero indication they’re out of the running. The NL west rival Dodgers and Padres have long been viewed as the favorites to sign the 23-year-old Japanese phenom with Badler’s latest report echoing that belief. We got an early indication that Los Angeles is a clear finalist in the Sasaki derby last week when they lost top international prospect Darell Morel to the Pirates. Sasaki is expected to make a final decision in the coming days once the international signing period officially kicks off.

“Milwaukee Brewers? That’s an MLB team??” -Roki Sasaki, probably.

So after all that talk about pitching development and such, we get two teams which aren’t exactly known for it and one which is great at it right up to the point the pitchers inevitably blow out their arm.

Color me shocked.
