Bracing for the worst

There was very very low hanging 'fruit' here:

Sounds like Nestor Cortes is part of the return. Solid lefty starter. 30 years old. Two more years of control.

Just one year of control I believe.

Whoops looks like Nestor and an IF Caleb Durbin. My first thoughts are yuck

We're getting a better player for less money this year plus one additional year of team control...AND we're getting a prospect. Which part is "yuck"?

AND, neither player coming back has a wall-punching celebration in their scouting report

Again, the MLB forces the Brewers to give up another star.

Brewers need to start their own league where teams have equal payrolls.  Time to leave the Rig Leagues and start a true and fair Big Leagues!

So Freddy Peralta, Tobias, Woodruff, Cortes then.......battle with Hall, Ashby, Carlos Rodriguez, Logan Henderson, Chad Patrick??

Civale will be in the rotation too. Can never have enough quality starting arms. Woody is a huge ???.

Durbin was the breakout player of the year in the Arizona Fall League. Stout, compact middle infielder with pop.

Would Turang ever move to short? DUrbin at 2nd, Ortiz stays at 3rd?

Nestor is a middle of the rotation starter. Have you seen what the going rate for that is on the open market?

Durbin is an MLB ready prospect that we can add to the infield mix and who fits like a glove with the team-wide philosophy of getting on base and speed.

Bottom line is Devin had a single year of control as a reliever. Middle of the rotation starter>elite reliever.

We can also trade SP at any point. Almost every team in baseball can almost always use a good SP.

Either that or Durbin moves to third. It does address the infield either way.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

.396 OBP at AAA last year for Durbin. Initial thoughts on the trade is we improved... is Durbin our new SS? I would hesitate to move Turang off of 2nd after being named the best defender in baseball.

Durbin is 5'6. Altuve like.

I'm not convinced they plan on simply installing Durbin at 2B. I think it's more about adding to the IF depth which took a hit with Adames leaving and giving them options in navigating the rest of the offseason.

Maybe they feel more comfortable going after Alonso/Goldschmidt now?

Many were upset with the return for Hader as well. Taylor Rogers flopped, Lamet was a nothingburger, but Gasser has shown real talent, and will hopefully make a full recovery from TJ. And of course Ruiz turned into Contreras and Payamps.
