Excessive media timeouts are obviously not a plus.

As someone who works in the marketing field, this is something that is easily solved.

For several years now, there has been a saying that "6 (seconds) is the new 60 (seconds)".  People just don't have the attention span for long commercials, and half of people watching the game at home are going to the bathroom, getting a beer or a snack, checking their phone, etc.  Hell, some bars play music during the commercials.

It would be really, really easy to make 6-second commercials to play on TV between plays.  The networks can get just as much ad money (perhaps even more), and advertisers are going to get more eyes and ears on those commercials than having 2:30 commercial breaks when they know and have known for years that half of the audience is doing something else during commercials.

They need to take a cue from baseball.  Pick up the pace.

The pitch clock has greatly improved baseball and once they improve the umpire situation they'll have addressed two of the biggest issues.

6 second commercials would drive me to drink and swear. So I guess if you are selling alcohol and life coaching it might work.

Sesame Street for the win...

Longer than 6 seconds: 😉

Granted, I have no idea what Sesame street would be like today...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I don't really care that there are commercial breaks, but must there be so many? Touchdown. Commercial. Kickoff. Commercials. Any chance for advertising is a lengthy break.

Please explain how you have made it this far in life without those two things.

LOL!!!!  This song has been stuck in my head for decades!

Fun fact -- it was sung by the Pointer Sisters.

Now back to your original Badger Football Programming...

Commercials are why I stopped watching football (both college and pro). Even when the game is going on, there is still a lot of dead time. I say they should ban huddles and a team should be forced to 2 minute offenses all the time.

People tell me baseball has a lot of dead time too. I disagree because I view pitching as a chess match and the pitch clock has helped.

My attention span and I have moved over to watching hockey in the winter. Since there is continuous action, there is a noticeable flow to the game. Additionally, each time only has a single 30 second timeout for the game (no commercial).

With commercial breaks at the 14 10 and 6 minutes marks (when there is a stop in the action), I don't really notice the commercials as much. I believe they are only 2 minutes long. I can also be productive and do something during the two intermissions.

My Tivo is wonderful... skip right through the commercials.  However... I was really upset to check that the Alabama/WI game was recording.. only to come back later and find out that it didn't for some reason.

But then I saw the score and glad I missed it.  But that might be the only game I get a chance to see this year.

I see Wisconsin is a 10-point favorite.  That seems like a pretty big number to me, but I can't argue as we don't know anything about Maryland yet.  They are 3-0, but the wins are against Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois and Towson.  Florida Atlantic already has lost a game to Florida International.  Northern Illinois' only other game was a 2 point win against Holy Cross.  Towson does not even count.  So we really don't know anything about Maryland at this point.

I can't ever remembering calling game #4 of a season a must-win game, but this sure looks like a must-win game for the Badgers.  The schedule looks pretty brutal after this game.

The thing I found interesting is the game opened with Wisconsin at -7.5.  I was shocked it moved.

I would like to see the offensive line do a lot more.  They need to open up holes for the running backs.  Although the Badgers lost last week, there were some signs that the passing game was improving.  Unless you can run the ball, the Badgers will be in for a long season.

On Wis!

The Luke Fickell experiment needs to end soon. I love the Badgers, but this is a terrible team. It’s time to punt on Fickell & his incompetent staff. His hire has set us back a decade. It may be wise to dump McIntosh as well.

When you get that one wrong with a school like Wisconsin it can hurt big time.

This is embarrassing.

At this point I hope it gets so bad that the big dollar boosters open up their wallets for the buyout because there's no future with him. The longer you wait the worse it's going to get if that's possible.

Really sad to see how far the Badger football program has fallen. This feels like rock bottom, but there’s probably further to go.

Well rock bottom will be the end of the year when they are looking up at a 2-10 record.

Good news is rebuilding can be a quick process if you get the right coach and boosters in place.   Bad news is I have no idea who would qualify as that level of coach and would be willing to come to WI and inherit this mess.

Well we now know at least 1 thing about Maryland. They are much better than UW.

Play like you give a crap.  That is what I want to see.

Last week at the end of the game vs. Alabama, the Badgers were nonchalant.  I looked at Villanova against Penn State and Villanova scored with no time left for their first score of the game.  The final of that game:  52-6.

Fickell is the one who sets the emotion for the team.  Show me a team that wants to claw, fight, and play for the name on the front of the jersey -- not the one on the back.
