I was looking at some team stats and saw that Fielding Bible and Baseball-referance have Sal Frelick at -6 runs saved defensively. I really haven't noticed anything worrisome based on watching games, other than he missed a cutoff and was benched earlier in the week. It seems strange that he was a gold glover and at least metrically is tied for the 6th worst fielder in the league this year.

Looks like StatCast has Sal in the negative too, though not quite so severe at only -2. Would imagine that should stabilize some as the season goes on.

On the team level the Brewers are a little below their usual rankings at +2 DRS (20th), +4 FRV (7th), and a .708 defensive efficiency (11th) which is just a simple measure of what percent of batted balls result in outs.

Since that last one is a rate stat it does a decent job showing how volatile the early season numbers are. Last year the Brewers .709 DefEff tied for 3rd behind SEA in 1st at .724 and just behind LAD in 2nd at .710.

So far this year there are six teams at .724 or higher (CIN tops at .754), and another three teams ahead of last year’s second best 162 game rate, so still lots of noise in there.

Other bottom line thing to look at is good old fashioned ERA/FIP gap, currently at 4.08/4.47 for a -0.39 (7th). A little behind their recent pace of -0.51 the last two years,

If we look at just April after the ugly 0 W - 4 L start though it comes out at 2.95/3.64 for a lot nicer -0.69 gap.

Yelich getting a day off… . ..good call Murph

There's bad games and then there's BAD games. IIRC Yelich struck out on three pitches THREE times yesterday & I don't know if I've ever seen that from a position player. With him sitting, hope to see the Chourio roller-coaster hit an incline today.

The more I watch Durbin at the plate the more I really like him in the 9-hole. Wouldn't mind if he was flipped w/Haase today. Finding ways to reach, extending innings, turning a one-run frame into three or four.

Maybe all the banging into railings and walls with diving catches and getting beaned in the bicep is taking its toll on him.  He probably just needs a game off to heal up to recharge.

Brewers win today. Cubs lose against Skenes. Brewers take two of three against the Cubs this weekend.

First place Milwaukee Brewers. 🤷‍♂️

Not off to a good start.

The Cubs might still lose today, but it won’t be to Skenes, who was off from the outset today as he was walking batters despite some generous calls. He escaped a bases loaded jam (all walks) in one inning when a smash was turned into a DP, but his luck ran out in the fifth as he surrendered 3 HRs in 4 batters and he is done for the day.

Might be time to bench Chourio on my fantasy team again.

When I did it last week he had two big games in St. Louis and I got a few hits out of him when I put him back on Sunday.

Back to the black hole this week.

Another high pitch count first inning from.our starter……..can’t continue like this.

Your right, waaay to many pitches for one inning.  28 to be exact.

Doesn’t matter if he has a high pitch count or not, Murphy will yank these pitchers earlier than need be anyways. Let the pitchers pitch and get through some tough innings.

You triggered one of my pet peeves.

A player cannot get “beaned”in the bicep. Beaning refers to getting hit in the head.

A player might get “plunked” or “drilled” in the arm, but it is not a beaning.

I am ready to call a spade a spade. Ortiz is a bum with a capital B. The first part of last year was a mirage.

I probably would’ve put this take out there before he was in the middle of a 5 game hit streak :)
