I hear Murphy pitched a rule revision to Manfred over the last month. It's called 'Manfred's Man 2.0'. In this scenario, manager Pat Murphy has received carte blanche to use RHP Nick Mears in any scenario at any time in any game in any season. This mean if he pitched two innings in regulation? He can come back out for two more innings in extras. Actually, he can also fill the role of 'Manfred's Man' by pinch running for the opposing team (?!?!) while he is pitching for the Brewers. He truly is trying to reshape baseball before our eyes. I'm all for it.

One thing I'd say is that while I also hate it, Murphy's philosophy fits right in with the organizational approach of having a ton of interchangeable arms available to churn through the regular season - and not have too much concern over burning options/IL stints because there's always more fodder down on the farm.

 

It's kind of how a small market organization needs to operate to be competitive, but it still stinks - and is definitely NOT how uber-talented young arms capable of starting at the MLB level (i.e., Mis, Henderson to name a couple) should be managed or handled.

From the outside, not a lot, which is why I don't often get fired up about a manager, good or bad. The organization knows MUCH more about the good and bad of a manager than any of us ever will.
