Ashby got up late when the lead got up to 9-1. Maybe he wasn’t warmed up adequately to be comfortable bringing him in. So, they stuck with Mears who was preparing to enter with a 6-1 lead and hadn’t pitched for a few days.

I think Ashby just didn't have enough time to get completely warmed. Miley faced 2 hitters and threw 9 pitches after the HR to push the lead to 8. Considering Miley works very quickly there wasn't a ton of time to get loose and warmed.

Now why Ashby is as deep in the doghouse as he is? Who knows. Only Murphy can answer that. At this point though with how much time he's had between outings, he's probably going to be shaky in his next outing due to rust.

Miley wasn’t pitching all that well in AAA for the Reds ye used some shrewd maneuvering to get added to the major league squad. Might not be for long if he gets clobbered in mop up time.

At this, point Ashby might be the guy they plan to go to when they are a few runs behind, early, a position they haven’t faced for awhile

I think that is what it was, he did get up very late and definately wasn't warmed up in about 10 pitches.

could a team construct a pitching staff with the sole focus of the piggybacking strategy we've used a few times lately?

probably not, but I've had a few and I want a nerd to refute this 😋

Stupid question……..does anybody know what the “T” hand gesture the brewers are doing after a hit is supposed to mean?

I think it's TS but I don't know what it means either.  They do a quick T then shift to what looks like an S with both hands.

And the Cubs lost tonight.

I always root for the Cubs to lose, but right now I think it's pointless to focus on how far the Brewers are behind them.

To this point the Cubs have been on a different plane than the Brewers. After finishing the brutal schedule they had to start the season, they have won 15 out of 20 against lesser competition and are showing no real signs of letting up.

For now my focus is on the Brewers using this 9 of 10 stretch as a springboard to better and more consistent play that could at least make them serious wild card contenders..

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If you can string together 8-10 pitchers who each go 4-5 innings, that seems possible. The problem I see is if you get a short outing from someone you expected four innings from then you don’t have many traditional relievers left in your bullpen.
Unless you string together an entire staff of 13 pitchers with length 🙂

I bet max effort one inning relievers you see once per game are more effective than seeing same pitcher twice in a game.

I wonder what’s up with Padres that they are TBD for all three games.

I seen this: Without Michael King and Yu Darvish, Padres so far weathering major rotation test.  When the Brewers do that its usually a bullpen game or they call someone up.

Yea while I agree Cubs are a clear favorite at this point no way I'd be giving up on it either.  5 games at this point in the year is nothing, but they have such a good offense and a much easier schedule going forward due to their brutal April.  But at some point they're going to have pitching issues and PCA is going to regress.

By no means am I saying its a lock that MKE make it close, but as their pitchers are all coming back now if Yelich/Contreras do much better than the start of the year and Chourio gets back to last year they'll have a real chance.  Likely will add a basic competency bat on the left side too.

One thing to note, if you delete the first four games when for whatever reason they were just not ready for the year, they're at a .576 win% which is a 93-94 win pace, and thats in spite of a completely injured starting pitching staff, Contreras/Yeli well below norms and Chourio just being ok.

I'm not giving up on anything or conceding anything either. But, with 100 games still to play I'm not focusing on games behind the Cubs. I'm much more focused on having the Brewers show that the last 10 games are not just a blip.

While people like to point out that almost all teams have some rough spots, it's also true that most mediocre to bad teams have a short hot streak or two during the season.

If the Brewers can get to something close to 90 wins they will have an excellent chance to make the playoffs, regardless of what the Cubs do.

This upcoming homestand will be interesting with games against two teams currently in wild card positions and a third team that has the talent to make a run at the playoffs now that Acuna and Strider are back.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
