I don't know if I'd go that far, pretty much everyone has 2-week chunks of the season that are awful. He's continued to hit balls pretty well (without looking at advanced data to back me up).

Even if it was true, That stretch was incredible.

Vaughn has certainly cooled off from his torrid July but the underlying numbers in August are still strong.

July - .474 wOBA, .460 xwOBA

August - .329 wOBA, .371 xwOBA

Over the last 15 days he has a .270 wOBA compared to a .398 xwOBA so there's certainly been some unfortunate batted ball luck there.

I've said it several times over the past week or so, but Vaughn has been mostly fine.

In the Cubs series, he hit several fly balls right into the extreme wind blowing in.

Another recent game he hit 3 balls over 100 MPH into outs.

If you look at his last 15 games he's basically back to his old self. 211/290/350 I think the wave is over.

Over his last two weeks (14 games) he has struck out only 6 times in 60 PA's.  Half of his career K%.

Updating for 30 games in as a Brewer (stats x5)... 90 runs, 180 hits, 25 doubles, 45 HR, 175 RBI (!), 60 walks, and 90 strikeouts. ... And on the averages now hitting .330/.395/.624/1.019.

Updating for 50 games as a Brewer (stats x3)... 69 runs, 168 hits, 27 doubles, 27 HR, 123 RBI, 51 walks, and 93 strikeouts. ... And on the averages now hitting .308/.371/.505/.876.

I didn't realize Vaughn had 0 HR in the last 20+ games.  Not since Aug 15?

I think about this scenario every few days or so...

The likelihood of Civale getting dealt at the deadline if he hadn't spoken up in protest was still likely BUT there remains the chance that had he just bitten his tongue and toughed out a few months in a long reliever position, we probably would have found an injury with him in August to give him a vacation for a few weeks, and right now he would be eating up valuable innings to save our bullpen probably in spot starts as well as many multiple inning chances mid game.

.. and while he has now found his way to a playoff team - he has limped into a 5+ ERA season and I'm guessing is now just hoping to get a major league offer next year?

The domino effect is crazy..

Yes, quite the domino effect on if Civale just stays the course.  Vaughn might still be tinkering on the Sox. We don't get that hot streak that helped vault MKE to the big lead.  Who knows where things are at right now.

Also, I personally am shocked that all the 'they're going to collapse and they suck' folks were wrong again. I look forward to seeing them all again after they lose in October so they can claim to have been right all along.

Interesting.

White Sox waived Civale after 67 IP @ 5.37 ERA (78 ERA+). He was claimed off waivers by the Cubs... and pitched out of the bullpen.

Apparently his estimation of his ability as a starter was not in line with reality.

look at these numbers, almost equal time between the two teams.  more walks, less strikeouts, same number of stolen bases
