60-40 Brewers at 53-47 Mariners; Tuesday, July 22 @ 8:40 p.m.: Jacob Misiorowski (2.81 ERA, 3.83 FIP) vs. Logan Gilbert (3.39 ERA, 2.96 FIP)

Gilbert had really good movement on his pitches, and had one of those nights where he seemed to put everything exactly where he wanted it. Bad combination.

Unpacking the offense tonight, the biggest thing I came away with was Turang & Yelich K'ing a combined seven times, in a game in which the M's used a LHP for exactly one-third of an inning. As good as the home team threw the ball--and they threw it really well---that's a performance we can't afford. Yelich can be so confounding sometimes. The ultra-high BA days obviously are over for him, which is fine. But it's difficult to imagine a hitter as productive as he can be put up so many ABs where he reminds you of the days when pitchers used to hit for themselves. 2018-2019 are over, but he needs to figure out a way to be something north of completely lost, which is how he looked tonight on way too many pitches.

That said, I thought our approach in the 9th was very, very solid (outside of the AB from Yelich). Collins turned in a piece of work vs Munoz that has rewarded him all season, and this time it didn't. I feel bad for the kid.

This game was played at RIG-ley Field!

The home plate ump was a life-long Cubs fan!

Absolutely brutal!

I hope Murphy calls him out by name in the post-game press conference!

This is still a very good team.

Yes it is. But welcome to the world of fandom, where a loss after winning 11 games in a row seems to necessitate a reminder of that.

From the comments in this thread, some seem to think there's some sort of silver lining to this game in that it's going to remind the FO that we could use an offensive upgrade. But I'm pretty sure they realize that, even if we had won this game 6-1.

The drafting, scouting & player development has been impressive, leading to a large storehouse of prospect capital. There are different directions they can go AFA where to upgrade, and the game of 'chicken' with other contenders as to how high you want to go to acquire someone is always fascinating. It'll be one hell of an interesting week.

The strike zone tonight is in no small part responsible for the score

Like Dillard said, Isaac Collins had a 5 and 1 count on him when he struck out.

Guys, this lineup as currently constructed isn’t good enough to win a World Series.

Our best hitter is … well I don’t even know, because we don’t even really have one.

I guess what I’m saying is, if we need to take one or two 1-0 games on the chin in the last week before the deadline for Arnold to go out and find a bat or two, it’s worth it.

The fans are the one saying don't rock the boat and Hoskins/Vaughn are good enough. The front office knows there are holes that should be addressed

11 wins….if I’m George Webb, I STILL announce a promotion tomorrow.  Announce a Buy 1 Get 1 thru the Cubs series….11 wins= 1+1 burgers. For Brewers faithful.
Why let the momentum die tomorrow?

I would think that George Webb has some type of insurance in case of the 12-game streak.  I'm sure it would be a huge hit on their bottom line if they did this, although it is one of the best promotions that someone could think of.

Since June 1, the Brewers are 5th in all of baseball in runs per game. Not saying don't make a move, but don't be surprised if it's something at the margins:

Low-scoring games where the only offense comes from a home run are common in the playoffs. It's the area where the team's offense could use an upgrade by adding at least one more batter that's a true home run threat.

The Mariners are on the right side of the umpire scoreboard like 80% of the time. Raleigh might be having the best MVP runner up season of time.

The ump scorecard from last night, for the record.

You beat me to it.  Either Umpire Scorecard is way off, or the box is way off.  The low strikes to Yelich were trash for sure.

That was my feeling as well after watching the game last night. The amoeba-like ump zone in the scorecard definitely matches the eye test, though.
