It's not a guarantee, but with only 57 games left to play if either team wins the season series at this point they have the tie breaker, which amounts to effectively a 3 game advantage for the other 49 games. So focus on winning the series and we are in pretty good position. Certainly if we can do better than 5-3 in those 8 games it's huge.

Still rocking a 1.058 OPS as a Brewer. Civale has thrown 11 scoreless over his last two starts, but you obviously make this trade every single time and I don't think Vaughn has done anything to make me trust Hoskins over him when he is healthy again.

My attitude for a series like this starts with “Win One”. The impact of going 1-2 is a lot less than getting swept.

It’s trite, but once you win one and take the sweep off the table then you can go for winning the series.

A big game tonight because the first game can set the tone for a series

The thing you don’t want to see is a repeat of the infamous and heavily hyped “Border Battle” of 2008. After the Sabathia trade the Brewers went on a winning streak that allowed them to charge into a tie with the Cubs. A Sunday loss dropped them a game behind going into the four game series.

Excitement was high going into the opening game with Sabathia on the mound. But the Cubs won and then went on to blow the Brewers out the next 3 days. Just like that the Brewers were 5 games back and they were never a factor in the division race after that.

Matthew Boyd’s career sure has had an odd trajectory.

One thing is clear though, he’s better right now than he has ever been.

I wonder when we start to hear about an innings limit for him. He’s been so injured the last 3 years

That's for sure, so we need to get to him early and rattle his cage good.  88 for a temp today and on field temp should be about 95 I'm guessing.

Now I find them tedious.

I think treego14 thinks they are genius.

this should be an epic battle, the young stud against the veteran rewriting a career

Boyd is on a 23-inning scoreless streak. He's just been crazy awesome this year, especially over his last ten starts. Hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a game since late May, against the Reds at the very hitter-friendly GAB.

Sits low 90s, but with a really good change-up.

Obviously, this is a big series, but it's probably not as big as we think with the 5-gamer in August coming. Sure, if someone sweeps, okay. But any outcome other than that is probably not going to flip the odds around too much. I definitely think the pressure is more on the Cubs down the stretch, but Fangraphs has them about 60-40 favorites to win the division (the Reds still are being given a shot too, and have been playing awesome baseball), and that seems right to me.

Either way, let's get back on a winning streak.

Momentum is huge, your 100% right! Any worries of Misiorowski throwing 18pitches(1inn.) in all star game july 15th, 64 pitches(3.2inn.) on July 22nd for a total of 72 live pitches since july 8th going into tonight? Or am I so used to being disappointed that I'm looking for excuses? Because Miz rebounded after Mets loss, and then again after a leadoff homer to Ohtani to dominate. His mental game has been straight money so far imo.

Looks like the Brewers optioned Tobias Myers after the game yesterday. No corresponding move yet, but I’m guessing it’s Yoho.

Nestor? I don't remember what day he last started. Could be Yoho for a couple days.

An MLB salary cap and/or equal revenue streams across the board in the MLB!

Make MLB fair again!

Until then, let's beat the dollars out of these big market teams on the field!

Brewers fans get the ultimate satisfaction out of wins -- how can a Yankees/Cubs/Mets/Dodgers fan ever get satisfaction over success with their unfair advantages in terms of money and ability to acquire/retain talent?

I'll give you this.......I don't think I've ever seen a post that received all five possible responses, until this one.

Yelich hit a couple balls hard yesterday, maybe his elevator of a season is heading back upward?

Haven't followed all their games closely but looking at the results, ebbs & flows it seems like CHI's bullpen hasn't exactly been lights out lately.

Lol neither of those things are going to make Pittsburgh spend, get a salary floor and penalize tanking with loss of draft picks
