Mets at Brewers; Friday, August 8 @ 7:10 p.m.: Brandon Woodruff (2.22 ERA, 3.32 FIP) vs. Kodai Senga (2.31 ERA, 3.89 FIP)

I'm a real dork when it comes to baseball. Tape measure HRs & the other spectacular stuff are fine, but I love seeing a 2B & SS well-coordinated to the point where it looks like ballet, a hitter letting a ball over the outer half of the plate travel jusssst enough to drive it oppo, a catcher getting the footwork arranged, closing & opening the hips & shoulders to create a razor-thin pop time...........

That charge, set-up, exchange & throw from Perkins was one of the tightest, most gorgeous things I've seen all year.

Watching Woodruff since he's been activated, it finally hit me tonight. Catfish Hunter. For fans old enough to remember him, the guy seldom if ever beat himself, always seemed to throw a pitch OTHER than the one the hitter was looking for, and when he gave up a homer---and he gave up quite a few----it almost always seemed to come with no one on base.

Been a Turang fan since day one. NEVER expected seeing him hit 6 or 7 & be as productive as he's been with men on base. Much fun.

For real, put that thing in the Louvre…or a Tom Emanski instructional video.

Could not watch the game live. What exactly happened in the bottom of the fourth inning? The play that gave Frelick second?

He reached on catchers' interference, went to 2nd on a Contreras walk---a terrific AB----and 3rd on the HBP on Collins. Then stranded.

I know Brice can handle short, but I LOVE him at 2nd and don't want to mess with it. He's just incredible at the keystone.

Suárez has gone 2-for-24 since rejoining Seattle. That’s a .083 batting average with 11 strikeouts

That doesn’t seem good…….

They're wondering when this voodoo devil magic will end.

I've seen so much of their late-inning storybook crap over the years in their ballpark.

Tell them we're still working on evening things up.

Goodness gracious, I love Blake Perkins. Genuinely just an awesome A+ Human:

I mean the guy is about to get drenched with Gatorade and tells Sophia to “ watch out” lol

I hope Henderson can come back after a minimum IL stay.

The Brewers are going to  need all of these guys during the 19 game in 18 day stretch.

I was looking forward to seeing him tomorrow when we put our 8-0 streak on the line. Meyers doesn’t inspire confidence these days.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

No he doesn’t……but either does Frankie Montas 😎

I'm hoping it's more of the version we saw of Tobes before his most recent call-up and then during his call-up. He was solid. If we get that version? I think we are in good hands I don't know what to make of his most recent work with Nashville - the pitching programs for a lot of the arms has been quite a bit of directive tinkering and not so much concerned with results. I'm hoping he shows out. We know it is in his bag. Obviously, it's quite a tough line up to be called up to face!

Given the opponent it seems to me like an inning or three from Hall as an opener might not be a bad idea.

5 games up.

We gotta win the division and get that top 2 seed.

I don’t want anything to do with a 3 game playoff series this year.

I do think the Brewers are likely preparing for a piggy back scenario tomorrow, regardless. Tobes hasn't thrown any type of meaningful innings in any game since July 4th. He only lasted 1 1/3 IP and 48 pitches his last time out on August 1st. My guess would be they are hoping to get 3 IP and anything else is pure gravy. Hope to get through the line up 2x?

Yeah, realistically speaking, they probably know they are going to have to have three inning eaters ready for the meat of the game..

Tobias might really surprise some people tomorrow, you never know.  Obviously I hate injuries but with that said I’m kinda stoked to see him get this opportunity.

Yep, the fact that a team can win their division and get stiffed with a three game series is ridiculous. Get rid of the third wild card team and make the two play a 3 game series. It’s so simple.

It's amazing this team has the best record in baseball with both Yelich and Contreras being liabilities for most of the season.

Liabilities huh?

There are many better playoff formats than the current one.  I'd make the WC#3 play @WC#2  two days after the season ends in a 3pm game.  If they lose they are done. If they win they play a rematch 45 minutes after game one is done in an elimination game.  The winner plays two days later @WC#1 in the same format. Whoever emerges from that plays the #1 seed in the division series.

Make regular season and division titles mean something and add a ridiculous amount of drama and non-stop elimination games for the Wild Card teams right after the regular season ends.  These days would be EPIC and get a national TV audience that the MLB has been craving for decades.

If the doubleheader is too much, I suppose they could just play the day after the season ends instead and spread the two games out over two days if WC#3 wins game 1.

I don't miss this at all

I am thankful almost daily to have his countenance, cadence, and vibes safely down south, never to return.

As a fan of the Crew and native son now living in NYC this was fantastic. I had to watch the knockout game last year with my SO’s family and friends, Mets fans one and all. Heartbreaking.

Brewers, Brewers, keep turning up the heat
