I’m going to test that theory 😀

also with a lefty going I wonder if frelick will get another night off?   Maybe Turang again?     I bet yelich plays even though he can look particularly ugly against lefties

The Pirates were 9-1 before their 4-6 stretch, but the trade deadline saw them deal Falter, Bednar, Ferguson, Hayes, and Frazier.

They still have a bunch of guys in the lineup that you've at least heard of, but they weren't scoring much before the trades - they're dead last in runs scored. While the pitching has been reasonably good, losing Bednar and Ferguson out of the pen is a gut punch - still have a couple guys with good numbers, but now sporting at least 3 guys with less than 10 appearances with the big club.

More than most teams, getting to their pen in the 5th or 6th should lead to joy.

The "score first" stat always makes me wonder what the winning % for any team would be if they were given one run to begin the game.

I'd be willing to bet it's very close to the win probability of games that are 1-0 after the first inning. Looking through a couple of those from the past few days on fangraphs, my guess is that an average team would have a .566 winning percentage. Roughly a 92 win season.

I think with an elite run-prevention unit (The Brewers) that would jump to well over 100 wins.

I have a similar feeling going into this series to the one I had going into the Marlins series.

Obviously the Pirates haven’t been as good as the Marlins were at that time. But the Pirates have played the Brewers tough so far and seem to be less anemic at the plate against the Brewers than their league average. Throw in facing Skenes and Kelly and these look like tough games..

The Bucs have been very schizophrenic at times. They have series where they score runs in buckets and sweep and follow that up with getting swept while barely scoring any runs

As long as they have Reynolds, they can’t be taken lightly. He loves facing the Brewers .

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I bet anyone $10,000 internet dollars Reynolds gets a hit.

Today, or that at-bat? Because if we're talking about that AB, I'd like to collect.

I love Bill Schroeder calling games

Where's BA this time? In the Iowa cornfields broadcasting the World Series of Backgammon on The Ocho?
