Peralta and Koenig (reports are they want a LHP in the bullpen and we happen to have a ton of them)

for

Duran

It makes almost too much sense to happen.

Not enough going to Boston.  Duran has more value than Peralta and adding Koenig doesn’t get close enough to filling that gap.  You would have to add in a prospect like Pena in the deal for this to make sense for the Red Sox.

Nah. Duran is good but he is in Arby and is already getting paid somewhat. Pena would be an overpay along with those guys.

Adding Pena stops this deal cold in it's tracks,  Not a chance the front office moves Pena for Duran.

Duran plus equals Peralta.  Not the other way around.

Duran finished 8th in AL MVP voting in 2024.

Peralta finished 5th in NL CY voting in 25.

1 vs 3 years control.

Both $8 mil for this season.

Oh and Duran has a 50 career HR that Savant calls for 59 at AmFam vs 44 at Fenway.  His spray chart showed a strong pull to LF in 24 that #8 mvp vote season and he had clearly worked going more center opposite field approach.

Duran is a little better than Frelick.   And not brewer-style cheap the next three years.   If I do that new betting site that’s out there where you can bet on anything, I’d bet that the Brewers would get a little bit more vs Boston getting a little bit more in a Duran Peralta trade.  That said, I think Peralta goes to the Mets for Sproat and Jett Williams in the next three weeks .

Duran recently had a 8.7 war season. He is much better than Sal.

You are correct.  He is in a different category than I thought when quickly looking at his numbers (don’t watch AL baseball at all really).

I am wondering if Peralta is between Boston (Duran) and NYM (Sproat) with the balance being what else is added where?

Please stop bringing up the control. The team that trades for FP will likely lock him up. NO discount

Yet none of that happened with Burnes-Hader- and Williams.

You know I'm going light this offer when you suggesting a 5-7  utility infielder and what looks by the numbers a #3-5 type SP. Not even 9k/9 at age 25.

Tong would be the premium upside I'd take him straight up for Peralta. Sounds like the type of movement pitching Brewers work with. A 10+K/9 22/23 6 years control if you dont wind it back.

If a team extends the player after the trade, any additional value the player gains by having more team control is cancelled out by the fact that you are extending them at current market value. His value comes from the fact that he is expected to outperform his $8M contract. If they tack on another 5-7 yrs at $125-175M (or 2-3 years for $50-75M, whatever it ends up being), they could just go get a FA for the same price without giving up any prospects.

Long story short, it absolutely matters that he only has 1 year remaining on his team friendly contract.

So this whole time you've been adamant that the Red Sox would have to be the ones to add value in a hypothetical Duran/Peralta swap, you've been admittedly operating from a position where you didn't even have a firm grasp on Duran's true value (13.2 fWAR | 15.5 bWAR last three years) and thought he was just a little better than Frelick (6.2 fWAR | 6.3 bWAR last three years)?

It’s less likely that the Red Sox would still be interested in paying for Peralta after signing Ranger Suarez. But it still seems crowded to have 3 lefty corner OF for 2 spots and none of them make sense as a DH with defense being part of their value. Maybe a deal can still be had. Personally, I’d like to see Wilyer Abreu come to Milwaukee

Assuming facts not in evidence……..Orioles didn’t lock up Barnes…..my guess is many if not most pitchers who get traded with 1 year of control decide to test free agency and don’t end up signing an extension with the team that traded for them.

Maybe Sveumn can do the research for us? 😎

Now that we have Jett Williams is it crazy to consider trading Pratt for Durran?

YES, yes it is...

I would guess the Sox would be looking for a monster return for Duran. With the losing Bregman (and Devers last year) they have almost no middle of the order bats (Anthony and Contreras are ok but not guarentees). If Duran was gettable there would be some whispers. My guess is that the Sox would want Pratt and 2 other really good pieces.

Pratt would be the 2nd or 3rd piece in a trade for Durran

Common buddy, completely whiffed on the Tobias Myers part of the deal. 😄

In all seriousness, nice call.
