Phillies released Castellanos. So basically they're paying $30M this year for Adolis Garcia to play RF.

After being taken out of a game, he brought a beer into the dugout and proceeded to question the manager's way of doing things.

His teammates took the beer away from him.

Erik Kratz gives some thoughts.  I didn't know there was a saying similar to "... give me some whiskey and beer drinkers."

My biggest concern would have been what type of beer was he drinking.

Twins signed LHP Andrew Chafin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

It’s qualifies as a surprise that Chafin was forced to settle for a non-roster invite with the rebuilding Twins given his extensive experience as a high-leverage option at the highest level. The 35-year-old southpaw compiled a strong 2.41 ERA — 3.44 xERA — 1.43 WHIP and 36/19 K/BB ratio across 33 2/3 innings over 42 appearances between the Nationals and Angels last year. He’ll compete for a spot in Minnesota’s season-opening bullpen and offers some appeal for contenders in a couple months as a trade deadline target.

What a disaster that contract was. $100M about 2400 ABs 0.7 WAR in 4 years.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I wonder how much of this is covered by insurance?

Probably none of it.

Bryant didn’t have a significant injury history prior to signing with Colorado, so it’s unlikely the Rockies would have taken on the kind of premium necessary when the loss they’re seeking to protect against is 180+ million dollars.

After he was diagnosed with a degenerative disc condition, no insurance company would write Colorado a policy to protect against long term disability of a player who has that large of a guarantee.

It’s a messy situation where the team can require Bryant to submit to exams, imaging, participate in rehab, etc. and he may not want to do that for the next 3 years, so like  Strasberg with the Nats and Rendon with the Angels, they’ll likely workout an amended contract and he’ll retire.

Minor league deal, a precipitous decline in value

Corresponds with a precipitous decline in ability and increasing injuries. Doesn’t run well, does not play defense well and maybe is a league average bat.
