I saw SI had a proposed trade that would bring in 3B Alec Bohm for SP Logan Henderson and SS Cooper Pratt.

Yuck.

The Brewers just traded a younger, better, and cheaper third baseman and signed a FA. I think the Brewers would feel like Bohm would weaken their team, especially at $10M.

Aside from Turner, Harper, and Schwarber, that Phillies lineup is looking on the wrong side of average, and getting older. Very left-handed. If Alec Bohm is your right-handed threat in the lineup, your lineup may be pretty average, unless you get full-strength seasons from Harper and Schwarber again.

Their rotation is looking a year older as well.

There's a lot of pressure on Andrew Painter and Aiden Miller to live up to their prospect pedigrees going forward.

If they fall behind early in the standings, it could be a rough season on the banks of the Delaware.

"For teams looking to balance their roster, add a dependable right-handed bat, or inject youth and energy into the infield, Bohm represents a valuable, though short-term, asset due to his arbitration control through 2026."

Youth and energy? Bohm? Dude is 29. He would be one of the older guys on the Brewers. And I had to laugh at "arbitration control through 2026." Whew, I was worried his contract expired July 1 and they'd have to renegotiate in the middle of the season (That's sarcasm, btw).

The author, Ryan Shea, seems to propose trades for their fantasy value. A quick scan of some of his other mock trades shows that he mentions fantasy in all of them. Plus his profile says he is a fan of all things New York.

It an interesting concept. With Woodruff the only starting pitcher heading to free agency after ‘26, even in ‘27 the Brewers will likely have more arms than major league roster spots, so trading some starting pitching for an established major league hitter makes a lot of sense, just not Bohm.

Will Alec Bohm be better than a Hamilton/Rengifo platoon, with likely help from Jett Williams at some later point? Likely so, in my opinion.

Will he, with his impending free agency after the season, be enough of an improvement to warrant giving up a MLB-ready starter and a top 70 or so prospect with excellent SS defense, and paying $10m on top of it? Absolutely not!

Yeah, no thanks to adding Bohm.

The team can reassess at or near the trade-deadline and possibly use what should be their absolutely bursting farm system to upgrade the 3B position if they feel the need to.

I mean, is that even a serious question? Of course he is,

The question is he worth giving up those two guys, that answer is no.

Luke Adams and something else is probably the value

Whats his value on the trave value site?

Here are the most recent BTV values I could find for the players mentioned:

Your Luke Adams+ evaluation is much closer, at least according to BTV:

He wouldn't have been worth this package a year ago when he was coming off a much better season and had 2 years of control let alone now when he's coming off a weaker season and has 1 year of control.

I'm not going to dispute Bohm being better than Rengifo because I think you're right about that but I think it's a bit misleading to post the baseball savant page of Bohm's career year as if that's the expected outcome from Bohm. Here's Bohm in 2023 and 2025. This is a better example of what Bohm is as a player.

Still better than avg. I'll take that for 1 yr if it doesn't cost a lot

Exactly.  I'm with you!  When you're the Phillies and always sign veteran FAs to big-buck contracts, 29 definitely means you bring "youth and energy" to that roster.  Like multiple phases of the Yankees' existence over the past 20 years, you get what you deserve when the expensive guys get old.  When you're the Brewers, the perspective is totally different.  I'll lean in to the Brewers' situation, thank you.  No thanks on Bohm.

I think this board sometimes gets caught up in players and their long gone prospect status.

Bohm is just a guy now.  Didn't meet prospect expectations, and isn't going to.

If he was next to free, sure, give him a shot, but that isn't the case, time to turn the page.

Who got caught up! Literally everyone in this thread mocked the trade!
