athletics just DFA'd old friend Aaron Civale.

Do we wanna go down that path again?

I thought the same thing, but after his me first refusal to pitch out of the pen forcing his trade to CHW, and his numbers this year… they probably stay away.

Only if we can trade him again at the deadline for someone better :)

He's also likely on the verge of being the Brewers starting 3B. Would likely be up now had he not gotten dinged last week, necessitating the move for Shewmake.

Just because Ortiz and Hamilton have not swung the bat well, why do you think k Williams is on the verge of being the everyday 3B?

They’re not going to make him the everyday 3B for the hell of it, he’s going to have to show he’s better than Ortiz/Hamilton/Schewmake, and right now he’s got a .726 OPS in AAA.

As for prospect lists, it’s likely 30 or more spots are going to go to teams’ first round picks and players who have had terrific seasons. Will he remain on those lists after they’re updated?

Maybe, but I sort of doubt it based on his performance this year, and the validation to date of scouts concerns about his size/power profile against advanced pitching

Speculation, nothing more...

With the 2 arms from Houston I am willing to say we have enough pitching depth especially when Crow, Hall, and Rob Z are back from the IL. I will say we need to add at least 1 higher end arm.

If you were hoping for a Skubal trade get ready to be disappointed.  The teams reportedly in on Skubal and have reached out to the Tigers are the Cubs, Braves and Rays.  The Dodgers haven’t reached out but are known to have some interest reportedly.

The Red Sox haven’t decided if they will sell or buy yet.  This maybe a last minute decision so you can check Gray off the list.

The Marlins are also in a similar position.

Who does that leave then?  Good question because it could be a very dead trade deadline.

That's like saying this rentention pond has a lot of depth. Sure, but nobody wants to swim in it.

Rob Z was just placed on the 60 day IL he’s essentially out for the regular season.

I am pretty sure they just transferred him to the 60 day. I think that is just 60 days from when he originally was put in the IL. He has made 3 rehab appeareances, they just put him on the 60 to save a 40 man spot. Unless I missed an injury update somewhere.

He had another setback. I wouldn't expect him to pitch this year but moving him to the 60 day doesn't really have an impact on that. It's retroactive to 5/31 so he's eligible to come off the 60 Day IL on 7/30.

I am all in on giving up too prospects/etc (other than Made/Pena) for Yordan Alvarez.

him in our lineup would be epic.  Let’s go get him.  What would it take?

Probably a wish granting genie or a magic wand at a minimum.

There were posts saying he had a setback last week.

With the AL being so terrible it could really alter the market. The Red Sox, Tigers, O's, Jays, Twins, and Astros are close to the wild card. I cant really see any of those selling at this point unless the struggle the next couple weeks. The only obvious sellers are the Angels, Royals, Mets, Rockies, Reds, and Giants (maybe the A's, not much to sell after young untradeables).

Demand is going to be crazy high.

Is James Wood even available?

No it's just dumb rumor mill stuff that spreads in social media because of course every fan would fantasize getting him.

Weaver has $11M guarantee for 2027.

Brewers won’t carry an $11M reliever especially one who isn’t a closer

Seems like the Red Sox have played themselves out of being sellers. The Tigers might not be far behind. At the pace this is going there is going to be almost nobody available to trade for from the entire AL.
