Sal Frelick ends up on a knee after swinging more than any player I've ever seen.

To think of it ... he sometimes ends up on a knee while taking pitches.

He's had success, but he always seems to be overswinging. I wonder how he would do if he batted with a little more control.

I went to a Brewers game in what I want to say was the early 2000s, possibly late 90s but I don't think so. I know they lost, and I think it was against the Angels, but not positive. I remember the opposing SP taking a no hitter very late into the game, maybe as late as the 8th or so. And I remember him throwing SLOW all day. I could swear he had a few dip into the 50s. It's driven me nuts over the years not remembering who it was.

Does anyone know of any reason other than injury that would cause such a velo drop from the onset of a game?

Has to be some kind of injury, I'm afraid.

And he's out. 7 mph drop in velo is concerning.

Throwing 84 mph is not something a 20 million dollar pitcher should be doing. Get him out or we could be watching his last start.

How was it allowed to go that long? Malpractice

And this is why you spend 32 mil on one guy with a track record like his.  Dont tell me the first 10 mil doesnt count because it didnt get payed last year.

Uh, it doesn't count because it was part of the previous contract and was going to be paid no matter what.

I feel bad for Woody, there can't be a situation where he doesn't miss an extended portion after that. Lots of work to get back, last year he had the injury as things were going good and now the same thing. When is Henderson scheduled to start, it should be an easy replacement maybe just move everyone back a day depending on where he slots in. Anderson for an inning or two and then Drohan (could just take Woody's rotation spot as well).

Woody is cooked. Really sad. He should get into coaching he would be amazing in that role. Contract stinks sure but it isn't a multi year and not really the time to talk about it.

Are you thinking of Chris Young of the Padres?  The 2008 game against the Brewers?    https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2008/09/07/young-four-outs-shy-of-perfection-as-padres-cruise-past-brewers/

The qualifying offer debacle probably cost this team a real chance at a playoff spot. Just insane use of limited resources.

That's a bold statement when we're treading water without 3 of our best hitters. But can you expand on which player you would have signed with that $20M?

Agree to disagree.  He turned down a 2026 contract, and got paid 10M.  Thats this season.

I understand what youre saying too.  He's making 32 THIS season on the terms of 2 contracts

I agree.  The contract was a mistake (and I still think they thought he'd say no to the QO), but honestly who cares at this point?  like you said it's a single year contract.  It doesn't really limit them moving forward, or at least not any more than they were already limited, and I will lose zero sleep over knowing that Woody is getting paid one last time before he's done given how good he was and what he did for the organization when he was under exclusive control and paid well below market.  If you're going to make a mistake and overpay a guy who's at the end of the line health wise you could do a lot worse than Woody.

I'll focus on the positive thought that as Greg Jones gets ready to lead off the next inning, we are hopefully just the weekend away of replacing him with Chourio, which is about as big of an upgrade as you can make.

Meh.  They almost certainly wouldn't have repurposed that money for anyone else, and I'm not sure how you can rationally predict they've lost a chance at a playoff spot on April 30th.  They might miss the playoffs.  They might not.  I'm not sure one is any more likely than they other if Woody is done.
