Also I have some strongly held opinions on Woody and his contract and obviously others do too... but this thread and that discussion was fairly productive and also fun.  That's why I love this place.

I was going to say Yuni, but honestly that is somehow unfair to both players.

Yuni B was the greatest SS/1B in Brewers history.  No one even comes close to his greatness!

For Brandon Woodruff, no I don't, or the premium would be so high that the Brewers wouldn't take it on.

Or if you get insurance, what they will actually pay out on is very defined and rigid.  Usually only a season-ending injury to begin with.  And they wouldn't insure any body part with a history already.  I doubt they actually have insurance on Woodruff.

Aye, the purpose for teams to buy such insurance would be a lot more likely with deals like the one Pratt just signed. Young player, long contract, where the cost would be fairly low because, wait for it...he is not likely to be catastrophically injured. Yes, it could happen, but that's the type of contract said companies could be profitable with. Getting 20 of those deals and if 2 guys get hurt, it's not a big loss. Likewise, the Brewers can recoup something for fairly low cost if he is hurt in year 2 of his 8-year deal. That's the kind of scenario where you get insurance, a low cost to protect against a disaster not likely to occur. Not for 1-yr deal on a guy very likely to get hurt so you can spend more money.

Vinny Capra  isn’t a bad pick, but I don’t remember him making as many mental errors (not hitting a cutoff man, popping up a bunt, challenging a pitch fully in the strike zone)… plus he could play a plus defensive position.

The last player that I can think of who looked this bad with the Brewers is a pitcher: Johnny Hellweg.

Vinny Capra is a great pick for worst.

Of course they don’t have insurance in Woodruff, it doesn’t make any financial sense for the team.

Same idea with an insurer. It would  e like writing a policy for a motorist with a history of crashes, why would any company write a policy for a pitcher who already has significant injury history, it would not be a likely money making situation.

Maybe if a player has a 250+ million dollar guarantee they could be insured, as you mention,  for very specific outcomes: career ending injury, injury resulting in multi-season disability,

Cycle watch for Wild Bill.

What a treat it would be for both our catchers to hit triples in the first 30 games of the season

Without context you'd think the Brewers are down 8-0 and Woodruff gave up a grand slam. Never change, IGTs

Greg Jones isn’t really worthy of his own thread, so he gets the IGT treatment regardless of score.

He still hit bombs, though. His OPS+ was over 100 every year with the Brewers.
