Dodgers (Sasaki) vs Brewers (Gasser): 5/23/26, 6:15pm

Posted

Roki Sasaki starts for Los Angeles. The 24-year-old right-hander carries a 5.09 ERA and an xERA of 5.12, meaning the underlying numbers confirm he's been exactly as hittable as the results suggest. Sasaki has already surrendered nine home runs over 40.2 innings, identical to Brandon Sproat. Worth noting: he had the best start of his career last time out, holding the Angels to just one run over seven innings.

Robert Gasser makes his second start of the season for Milwaukee. Last time out, Gasser went 4 IP allowing 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB and 3 HBP with 3 K against Minnesota.

This seems like another one of those games where we’re going to need some innings from the B-list bullpen (Anderson/Hall/Woodford) - the back end is intact, though, so just get through 7 with a legitimate shot (say, a two-run deficit or better).

I was looking at the standings and noticed the Brewers have played 4 fewer games than a lot of teams - due to a couple of postponed games, I assume, but that means fewer off-days than others. That will hurt the bullpen in the long run, but being able to bring up reinforcements (and Koenig is going to be a big add if he can make it back up) is imperative.

Yeah, would guess they are hoping to get through six with Gasser/Hall then go to Anderson, Megill, and Uribe for 7/8/9 if they are tied/ahead or Woodford if they're trailing.

With Grant last pitching on the 17th could maybe try to get four plus outs with him if needed.

100%. With the loss of Zerpa, I know Ashby is pretty durable but Drohan's emergence as a LH option has just been so huge. Koenig working his way back is encouraging, as is Zastryznys' work in AAA since returning. If Hall can correct some command issues, he can be a real weapon. And Fitzpatrick acquitted himself pretty well when up here. Depth, depth, depth.

No Mitchell to ight against the righty ……..wonder if his back,is still bugging him a little.

Definitely possible. I also think right now they are choosing between Mitchell's defense vs Bauers' offense and the latter has been more valuable possibly?

Certainly possible but if they wanted to prioritize offense they could have also gone with Bauers in left, Mitchell in center and Chourio in right.

How we keep winning with that bottom third of the order is just something to behold...

No Bill kinda sucks. His bat has been hot. DH would have been nice.

probably because of that foul ball he took off the finger last night

Could be though if I had to guess, I'd guess that Contreras days off are planned in advance and built into the schedule.

Regardless I'm sure the Dodgers are very upset.
