Keep beating the Cardinals, this is fun. And tonight, we get to watch Harrison again! But also, look at that bullpen chart. It's all red, which means every reliever in the past five days has thrown over 20 pitches in their appearance. Is this a trend? Interesting.

The brewers crack me up.    They just basically tell every team they are playing we are going to handicap ourselves with half the lineup as some of the worst hitters ever assembled.   Basically like the Mendoza Line Avengers and then win the game 5-1

well at least it’s funny for the first 50 games or so.      It might not be so funny in 100 games but we can worry about that later I guess

That may have been true a couple weeks ago, not so much with Yelich, Vaughn, and Chourio back. And I think you need to look at some of the other lineups around the league. No one's running out 8-9 hitters batting a reasonable average.

Yesterday, for example, yes Rengifo, Perkins, and Ortiz have putrid season numbers. Everyone else is .700+ OPS or better.

The Cardinals have 5 players below .700 (although one is just barely).

Surely the vaunted Dodgers lineup must be way better? Nope, they have 3 players below .700 (although to be fair, they're closer to .700 than the Brewers 3).

Maybe those guys struggling now will have enough at bats to figure it out and be good in 100 games. They are certainly not going to get any better sitting on the bench.

To be fair to frelick, Perkins, Hamilton, rengifro, Ortiz also is what they lack in actually hitting the ball safely they make up for it for not having any power whatsoever

its really remarkable the loophole the brewers organization exploited by finding players like that

The other crazy thing is this a Brewers' issue only. No other teams (and especially no contending teams!) have offensive issues throughout their lineups.

My concern in recent games is the chasing, Chourio & Yelich in particular but not exclusively. Let's not forget the effectiveness of the lengthy ABs earlier in the season, grinding, fouling off tough pitches, going deep into counts. I have no idea if the numbers bear this out but it seems that lately we've been letting opposing pitchers off the hook on 3-ball counts much more than before. I salivate at the thought of Chourio getting to the point in his development where he gets a better feel for what's a good pitch to attack & what isn't. As for Yelich..........he's providing pop, and at this stage in his career you almost feel like you have to live with the occasional bad swing decision.

Whether he lasts eight weeks, three weeks or two days I felt good for Rengifo yesterday. Four for four in good ABs; unfortunately Yelich took an RBI away from him.

The bulk outings recently HAVE been interesting, as well as Uribe & Megill both in mothballs for several days. I fully expected one of them in the 9th yesterday, non-save situation notwithstanding.

I guess it keeps most of the players fresh.

I think Uribe will pitch today, unless were up by 5 or more.

Hamilton starting at SS.

Megill will probably stink next time since I’m saying this now but I think these extended breaks are good for him and uribe who are all about power pitching.   I’ve been adamant in saying that Megill takes back closer spot at some point.

I'm hoping he's getting a better feel for the breaking stuff mechanics, release point, etc working in side sessions in recent days & that we see a positive difference when he gets into a game. You'd have to think one or both needs to pitch at least once before Houston.

Wish we had a way to get Vaughn more ABs against rightys.

His career splits arent terrible and he is such a solid hitter.

It’s stupid to just bat Vaughn against lefties all year

It's a shame. Frelick should be odd man out right now.

The key to unlock that is Chourio in CF & Bauers in LF. And we'll be seeing that; they just aren't comfortable doing it on a regular basis which I understand.

And IMO you're downgrading your defense in RF pretty considerably if it's someone other than Frelick. It's an important factor but people don't want to consider that because he's hitting .220.

Yeah, that would be pretty stupid.

He has eight starts and 33 PA against RHP already though so that’s not what they are doing.

Vaughn also has a 429/555/571 line over his nine pinch hit PA since joining the Brewers, so he could still make an impact if the Cards bring in a lefty reliever later in the game.

Cubs down 5-0 to Pirates after one inning. This is truly glorious.

Good lord they're in complete free fall.

He may be when Brandon Lockridge comes back.
