Could be family-related issues that he needed to attend to.  Hopefully not.

Per the full interview with Sweet, Lara has been with the team and taking part in the off field workouts still.

It screams extension to me. He’s obviously healthy and if it were bereavement or family related he likely wouldn’t be with the team.

Sweet is also not going to tell us that we will know soon enough if it’s a trade, that could always fall through and they are not going to speculate on that before it happens.

Hope I’m not just setting myself up to be let down but a lot of signs point to extension for me.

If there’s an extension, isn’t it interesting that he is being held out of games? I can understand keeping him healthy if he’s being traded to another team. I imagine there’s something I don’t understand.

They held Pratt out of games before he signed his extension.

That’s true. I can understand doing a thorough physical examination before making a $50 million investment but that probably only takes a day or two?

Might just be giving the player time to discuss with their family and agent and have time to think about making such a life changing decision without the pressure to prepare for a game as well.

That totally fair and human. I suppose there is more to life than beating up on the lowly Durham Bulls tomorrow.

Pratt last played on 3/29 before he signed his extension on 4/3.

If an extension is what is occurring, I would imagine Sal Frelick instantly becomes a trade candidate.

Not until after the season.

Reminder that it took Turang a while to adapt to major league pitching.  There was a lot of angst about his .585 OPS over the 448 PAs his rookie year.

Sal Frelick has had three full seasons in the majors at this point. There's a major difference.

Do I think that Sal is quite as bad as his numbers would indicate? No. But an extension of Lara right now would be quite ominous for Frelick, with a trade possible as soon as the deadline.

I'm talking about Lara.

He has zero major league experience.  There is no guarantee that he will be better as a rookie, and may put up a stat line like Turang did as a rookie.

My bad.

Still the Brewers are not generally in the business of giving MLB contracts to guys to sit in AAA or on the bench. If he's extended, I would expect him to be called up soon and be seeing significant MLB ABs, almost certainly at the expense of Frelick.

With Chourio, Mitchell, and Bauers already taking up the lion's share of ABs, it becomes a simple numbers game. Would they need to trade Frelick? No, especially with Mitchell's health always in question. But he would become a 4th/5th OFer and likely be on his way out sooner than later.

I think Cooper Pratt is a good analogy here...

Seems like a weird extension candidate. Why wouldn't we see how his stature and numbers translate to MLB? Pratt and Chourio are respectively at a premium position and felt like can't miss. Lara seems much more mirage.

Gambling.

If we find out he can hit MLB pitching first his number doubles.

Not to turn this into a Frelick thread but I am sure Lara would be a better defender in right even if he doesn't hit as much

Young for all of his leagues. Seems to have turned the corner on power. Plays GG CF defense right now. I don't see the issue

Lara and Pratt have far more in common with each other when it comes to prospect status and potential than they do with Chourio.
