Before today I saw people say Sproat would be out of the rotation once Henderson is back and they go back to a 5 man rotation, I disagree even before today.

Miz, Harrison, Woody, Sproat, Henderson

Drohan returns to the pen, Gasser optioned even though both have done well lately

People on here said Sproat has a AAA arm and had little business in the major league, The organization was incompetent for trading for him. Murph was brainless for saying he had good stuff.

Sproat is a work in progress. I don't know if we can say yet whether he'll be really good. Maybe he will. Maybe he won't. But for now he's getting plenty of opportunity to learn and succeed. Let's hope for the best.

If you accept 1) that the top 4 starters when healthy are Miz, Harrison, Woodruff, and Henderson, and 2) there will be a 5-man rotation, then you have Sproat, Gasser, and Drohan (and I guess Crow), as the contenders for that final spot (and had Priester been able to go, it’d have been him). Of those options, Sproat might have both the highest ceiling and lowest floor - as others have said, a work in progress. Last night was great, but has the light come on for consistency? My choice of those options is Gasser, but it is not a strongly held belief.

This offense is not good enough to win a World Series.

But this offense is #3 in all baseball, NL and AL.

That is #3 out of all 30 teams.

This could be an interesting comparison after the all star break

Or we could get him back as executives and scouts weighed in on what the Mets could get for Freddy Peralta at the MLB trade deadline.  Also, do not forget we got SS Jett Williams in the deal.

I seldom laugh out loud, but I am unable to stop laughing. This reply is hilarious. My wife of 40 years is concerned. I truly melted down in laughter. My eyes are watering.

I grew up in the UK (ish, NI is fun!). Every Saturday evening at 10.30 I watched match of the day with my dad with highlights of all the games played that day, and occasionally full games on a Sunday. I really enjoyed the sport. That being said, I haven't watched more than 2-3 games in the last year purely because it's really difficult to appreciate the intricacies and tactical nuances of the sport in the middle of the park.

It's the biggest sport in the world for a reason. But an 8-10 minute highlight video does me just fine. The action is great, the middle bit, a little chewier to really get into.

With a full off-season of physical development and mechanical work with H&H car wash, there's a chance Sproat is the definitive number 2 on this team next year. Just needs a little work on his engine and grooving a more consistent delivery

There may be some that think that Sproat doesn't amount to anything but I don't think that is the majority. In my opinion he has performed the worst out of Gasser/Drohan/Sproat. I'm all for a six man rotation but Murphy said it is going to 5 and even after last night I would have Sproat as the odd man out for now. It is time to see what we have in Gasser.

Maybe that first sentence. You know that not one person ever said that second sentence and I doubt the third.

If you send Sproat down it is to give him some time off, so there are no issues at the end of the season with workload.  I think he is the #4 (or #3 if Woody isn't available) starter (or opener) for us in the playoffs if we do not acquire a frontline starter at the deadline.

Small sample etc. but Sproat has improved every month (and June includes a start in Colorado and a start at the moon base in Las Vegas):

You can see why they like him. His stuff is electric...until it isn't. I think the big difference recently is he's cut his walk rate in half.

One start doesn’t make me a believer yet that he’s not a pen guy, but it’s definitely a welcome step in the right direction. Hopefully he can build on that.

I wanted to add … we are all rooting for Sproat and wanting Sproat to succeed. We all want this team to go to a World Series.

Different people are allowed to have opinions and players that they are higher or lower on, without making them a negative fan.

There were plenty of folks 2 years ago that thought that Miz was strictly a bullpen guy. It doesn’t mean that those people are stupid or dumb. It means that we all have our own evaluations of the players that we see based on the information that we have. The people that run the Brewer organization are better at it than any of us, so fortunately we are usually in good hands as far as who the decision makers are.

On the flip side of the coin I remember when Josh Hader came into the league and many thought he would be a starter in the mold of Chris Sale. None of us are batting 1.000.

I agree with this take

Miz
harrison
woody
henderson
gasser/drohan/sproat/crow

i still like Patrick better as a rotation piece than Sproat as well.

if Sproat could be another Patrick type weapon (throw heat and multiple innings with shut down control) that would take even more pressure off vulture/Abner/trevor

One minor quibble.  His April was actually better than May, though it looks worse for Mar/Apr since his first start was a disaster.

but I agree that he has been much better in June.  Looking forward to his continued improvement/success in July!

Well said. When he hits his spots, he is effective.

People are hesitant to jump on the Sproat bandwagon after his start last night, but damn, that was impressive.  If he strings together a couple more starts like that one, we have something!

I'm not counting him out, I prefer to think that was a turning point!

People on here were very harsh. Not completely undeserved. Sproat struggled. But I think the organization knows what they have. I've learned to trust them.

True. Nobody gets it right 100% of the time. But when you look at this organization compared to league averages, they are definitely right more often than they are wrong.

We aren't talking as much about today's starter, Drohan, in this thread, but arguments can be made for him, too. There was a time there where the consensus was he was currently #3 (no Woody/Henderson, and Gasser/Crow spot-starting). I view him as more of a battler than the others, meaning his stuff isn't necessarily top-end, but he is a bit crafty.

It's really amazing how this team can just keep trading away their stars and keep chugging along.

Here's how the outgoing pitchers (Peralta, Myers, Quintana) have faired vs. the incoming pitchers (Harrison, Drohan, Sproat) this year:

And the comparison is even more favorable since May 1st:

I enjoy soccer quite a bit. I have my teams that I follow, and I like the coach and construction of the USMNT. We do have a chance to make history this year.

Part of the reason it is the biggest sport in the world is that it is so basic, very little equipment needed for people to play anywhere. They just need a ball and some 2 x 4 goals. I've also enjoyed the passion of the fans from different parts of the world in the US. It's all been good and fun to see.

Two differen BABIP related comments

1. Sproat's BABIP against was a touch above league average in Mar-May. It is well below in June. I am enthusiastic, but it is slightly curbed.

2. Look at what having an elite defense does to BABIP.
