The thing that gets me is that you can’t tell me there was no team that didn’t want some of our top prospects that are hitters and willing to depart with a better pitcher than the Dodgers actually gave the Tigers. I’m surprised we cannot find a three-way partner.

Sounds easy on paper, but there is a reason three team trades rarely happen. Hard enough to find an agreement of value between you and another team. Now you are talking finding a pitcher the Dodgers want that matches the value of the player you want. Then going to that team to then agree your value is worth their pitcher to then turn around to send the Dodgers.

Media screaming and scolding  about the Brewers not landing him can go kick rocks.

It's funny because they set up the whole narrative the week ahead of the deadline. Basically that if the Dodgers get Skubal and ruin everyone's good time, it's the Brewers fault.

Fangraphs has Ryan top 25, MLB pipeline top 75. If these are close to accurate, the list of possibilities is short, especially when you eliminate the guys who would definitely require Made (Anderson, Sloan, Hernandez, possibly White), guys whose organization needs pitching a lot more than hitting (Susana, Sykora, Eyanson post-trade), and the other Dodger (Zazueta).

and the Tigers demanded Henderson, which is in a different league than what the Dodgers gave up. Im saying a team with a young, controllable arm more proven than Ryan with maybe a lower ceiling could have been part of a 3-team deal and that would open it up.

Who said the Tigers wanted a lower ceiling player?

According to McCalvy the Brewers offered a hitter heavy offer for Skubal but the Tigers turned it down.  Pena was in this offer.  The other two pieces are not known but speculation is that Adamczewski would have also been included.  McCalvy also stated the third may have been in or just outside of the top 100 so I am going to assume that was Frias or Ragsdale.

I think the Tigers messed up here and took the wrong offer.  Yes pitching is nice but I don’t understand how you can reject the Brewers offer if it was Pena, Adamczewski and Frias/Ragsdale.  That is like a Herschel Walker trade.

This was discussed earlier this morning, but I think it gives credence to the idea that the Tigers were never sending him anywhere but LA.

Probably I was just being lazy and didn’t want to sift through pages of drivel.

I'm saying i dont think they need a very high ceiling pitcher to beat the Dodgers package, if one of the pitcher has some proven MLB success. I think someone could have forked over a decent young arm or two in exchange for Pena/Adamczewski/Payner or whatever it was

My 8 year old son was suspicious of the Tigers motivations. He told me to find out where their boss was from.

Looks like Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris is from California and went to school at UCLA. Coincidence??? Or not???

Better coincidence could be that Harris came up through the Cubs FO.

Garbage article i could have written with all my "insider" knowledge, too.  Nothing about the fact the package the dodgers sent Detroit was far less valuable than anything else offered, because the article doesnt cite the other teams offers specifically.

Reads like the Tigers needed to get the Skubal deal done early so they had more time to work out a Mize trade before the deadline - lmao.

More info coming out on the Brewers offer for Skubal and they had multiple.  One offer for sure had Pena and Frias in it. Another offer had Jett Williams in it and another offer that had pitching prospects in it.  It was not a lack of trying by the Brewers front office.  The only offer that could have beaten the Dodgers offer would have been a Made and Pena offer.

That would have been an asinine offer.  I am glad the FO didn’t go full stupid on a Skubal offer.  It also explains the price on May and Romero.

Seems to me the Tigers were willing to listen to all offers, but ultimately were focusing on obtaining young major league ready pitching as part of any trade. The Brewers didn’t have any young major  league ready pitching they were willing to trade for a rental.

I read the passan and rosenthal articles this morning. Not a ton extra to glean from the Brewers perspective. Really only the timing of the trade-tigers wanting to make sure they got their preferred deal before teams had a chance to pivot to Kirby.

I don’t think this is some grand conspiracy. I think it’s totally possible the Brewers feel they offered better packages than the dodgers, but the tigers own evaluation was that the dodgers package was better.

I did find it interesting that the Brewers felt only Skubal, Gausman, and May were viable playoff starters. Notably Holmes, Mize, and Ray were also dealt and have sparkly surface stats.

im still disappointed we didn’t land Skubal and that’s compounded by the dodgers trading for him, but I’m satisfied with the mindset the Brewers had and satisfied with the pivot to May.

Neither did the dodgers

Ryan is not young and Smith is not anywhere close to MLB reqdy

The Tigers might very well feel that it's harder for them to acquire quality pitching than it is to acquire quality hitting, and thus quality pitching is more valuable to them.  If you look at the Brewers top prospects, that same thing could be said about the Brewers.

I think we also may be over-valuing Pena relative to the industry.  Pena had some unknown health scares, some minor injuries, and hasn't yet shown that he can make the jump to AA.  There is upside, but there are also are risks with him, and risks lower value.

When Healthy, Pena has been hitting.  Not for the power I was hoping for, but when able to take the field, he hits.  If he had been healthy all season, I believe he would have made the jump to AA by now, and I don't even think it's a question.

Hopefully, he can stay healthy next season, if so, I think we will all be really happy we didn't include him in any trades.

That is my hope, too.  Since nobody outside of Milwaukee really gives a rip about the Brewers, why would they know about Henderson?  The only reason the national media knows about the Brewers' prospects is because they are on a list and somebody else did the research on them.

too early to be panicking about the Cubs. they have a recent history of streakiness and underperforming expectations. Good lineup but still some considerable pitching questions despite burning the farm to fix it.
