Murphy definitely backs his guys as I am listening to the presser. Guys love him. Not the best in game manager but he works for what this team is.

Sanchez should be the Brewers starting catcher for the time being. Contreras looks like the worst player on the team. Give him a few series where he only needs to play one game a series.

Do you honestly think this well reasoned, based in mere observation, proposition would ever realistically be considered by the Brewers coaching staff? How long did it take them to give Yelich a day off? They play the big contract guys no matter what. I think it just is what it is. I'm thankful we saw Sanchez today, tho. How great was it to simply see a backstop keep it simple and use what was working until that first breaker?

I know people dislike Sanchez but he’s been everything you expect and more from a backup catcher. 
 

I don’t know what to think of Bill at this point.

He also hasn't caught a game since 2024 and even then he only caught like 50 games. They started seeing those obvious signs at 30-31. He's now strictly a 1B/DH. I think you know this?

Sanchez is probably my least favorite player on the Brewers, but I have to agree

Sanchez has been frustrating on challenges but as far as backup catchers go, he's solid. Dude hits a bomb after not getting ABs for a week and then has another double today and was part of the Brewers getting the lead.

More like Murphy's law = sometimes I do things wrong but we still win.

Yeah.   To me he’s selfish but at the end of the game he put his arm around Lara and looked to provide great veteran leadership.  I’m batting him DH over Yelich every day right now

Mike Piazza hit 40, 38, 36, 33 HR's from his age 30 season through his age 33 season.

In those season he had 124, 113, 94 and 98 RBi's. He hit .280 or better in all 4 of those seasons. 

Gary Carter hit 20+ HR's from his age 30 season thru his age 33 season. 3 of the 4 years he had 100+ RBI's.

Willson Contreras (135 wRC+)
[moved off catcher as noted already]

Jorge Posada (127 wRC+) Mike Piazza (126 wRC+)
[Steroid Era holdovers]

Buster Posey (116 wRC+)
[probably the very best one could squint and hope for]

Javy Lopez (111 wRC+)
[another Steroid Era holdover]

Grandal, Carlos Ruiz, Russell Martin (107 wRC+)
JT Realmuto, Salvador Perez (105 wRC+)
[more likely best realistic case scenarios]

So far Contreras the Younger has a 119 wRC+ for his Brewers career and has a three year downward trend from 132 to 113 to a 100 wRC+ before today.

Barring a crazy turnaround down the stretch and through the postseason carrying the team to a World Series, I'd be hesitant to extend for what is likely to be a record approaching catcher contract for William.
