Henderson gets the ball for the Brewers tonight at Wrigley Field as Milwaukee takes on Gausman and the Cubs.

Amongst all of the highs of the last few weeks - watching both Pratt and Lara step up with big at bats in pressure spots has been awesome. Of course it foreshadows positively for the future but in the now, combined with Ortiz, that bottom 1/3 of the order has been fun to anticipate each time through. It's a far cry from the bottom 1/3 we were throwing out there in May.

I don't view the Braves or Phillies as really any kind of significant step down from the Dodgers. The Cubs, I do, because of that pitching staff. But if you're a Dodgers hater, it'll definitely be a bit tougher for them this year if things hold - they'd get Arizona, whom they are 6-7 against this year and is just more of a legit playoff team than Cincinnati was...then they'd get the Braves in the NLDS.

Brewers likely drawing Philadelphia on the other side. I'd want the Cubs again. The pitching is a giant achilles, the likes of which none of the serious teams have.

Honest admission - my head knows the division race is over, but my heart won't celebrate until the magic number reaches Jeffrey Leonard. 

We still have 7 more games in a row in this stretch of 16, and the bullpen has covered a lot of innings lately, It's nice to have the extra man out there post-Sep. 1, but it'd still be good if we could get a little length out of Henderson and save a couple of these guys that have pitched the last two in a row. I imagine the Cubs BP is in much worse shape.

Lol. The Cubs need a 16-6 finish to overtake us if we go 6-16. The Brewers are playing for a bye. The Cubs are playing to be the 4th seed and honestly, to keep San Diego at bay at this point.

In picking up Senzatilla and Romero, the Brewers effectively took what was already a strength of their team, and made it perhaps bulletproof. Granted its been a small sample, but those two moves are looking very good.

I still have hope for May to figure his crap out and provide meaningful, effective starts this month and into the postseason. His stuff and makeup is better than what we've seen the last couple outings, and having a veteran steading presence in the playoff rotation would be a very good development. 

The Cubs, on the other hand, only picked up Zeferjahn (who has been bad) to try to solve their biggest weakness, which was their pen.

Agree and I know Murph loves Sal, but with his health, he is 4th OF on this team and it’s pretty clear. Lara has to play and get consistent ABs

The future is bright. Pratt and Lara were fringey top 5 prospects in the org and have made the jump well. 

im not sure who the cubs all gave up to acquire pitching at the deadline, but these orgs are likely to head opposite directions with so many top tier prospects still in play for Milwaukee

To be fair, their rotation was in shambles too, so it was imperative they add there, and they did probably as well as could be expected there for the number of bodies they needed.

2 walks against the shaky command of Miz last night and a meaningless single off the mound drove PCA's season OPS against the Brewers all the way up to 0.322, slightly higher than against the Twins at 0.321.  Here's to hoping Henderson has his good changeup working tonight and PCA can practice his super cool bat flips on his way back to the dugout after a couple more K's to get back closer to that 0.300 line.

 

I get that he's among the NL leaders for MVP at this point mainly because Ohtani isn't pitching and he's having a very good season....but man he's an unlikeable deutsche bank and I hope he craters into a prolonged slump in September.

You know what's crazy? Eric Bitonti is crushing it in with the Rattlers, the Brewers are excited about him, and his progression has been more than fine since getting drafted.

Cooper Pratt is in the middle of a pennant race as our starting shortstop.

We drafted them both out of high school in the same year. Just a wild rise for Pratt and something not to take for granted.

Also another note, the Brewers drafted 3 high school shortstops in that '23 draft. Bitonti (3rd), Pratt (6th) and 15th rounder Josh Adamczewski.

The prep scouts were on one that year.

We have pretty much neutralized the kid all season, so why does he bother so many so much?

Twist the knife tonight. We’ve done the bare minimum of what we needed to do in these 7 head to head games. Everything else will be about seeding, but since I live in the Chicago area, it’s extra sweet when we beat the cubs.

Things can change rapidly but the current situation favors us playing the Cubs/Phillies winner in the DS. I think the team with the better offense is the favorite in the WC round since pitching depth isn’t needed so I think the Cubs will likely advance in that matchup.

The dream scenario would be that we beat the Cubs enough in the next week to eventually knock them down to the 6 line and put them up against ATL/LAD in the WC.

The Cubs live in our heads as any true rival should. We were all nervous when we were up 5 games with 80% division winning odds. We live in their heads too and not just their fans but their manager as well 😂

Personally I think it’s awesome that PCA is doing what he’s doing, it’s great for baseball. It’s even better that we have our own young outfield star who is showing flashes of elite batting capability as well. Baseball is a team sport but everyone loves a matchup of stars and Chourio is emerging as our answer to PCA’s historic season.

All good points, but I still fear the Dodgers the most.  Their playoff rotation will be some order of Ohtani, Yamamoto, Skubal and Snell. 

That's terrifying, like a decade's best all star team or something.

I just saw a stat that Chourio is 25th in all of baseball in WRC plus. He’s starting to realize his extreme potential.

I doubt any of us would feel good about having our top 3 starters all coming off lousy outings this close to the playoffs.

I think its the hype combined with with just the punk actions. It's probably how opposing fans feel about Uribe. Yes, they bring some flair and wear their heart on their sleeves but also draw attention to themselves and its kind of selfish. And are just kind of showy. Like when PCA walks to first looking for a walk when the entire ball is in the strike zone.

For me he is someone who over-exaggerates his emotions or events for reaction.

PCA doesn’t really bother me. He’s arrogant but as long as he can back it up which he clearly can, he has a right to be. He’s obviously an elite player and the Cubs would basically be an average team without him. I’m more irritated with the Mets for making such a dumb trade and now we have to deal with him for however many years.

The hypocrisy of PCA making an obscene comment to a woman at a game and getting off with a slap in the wrist, with Uribe getting suspended for his gesture to opposing players, does annoy me a bit, however.
