I've done zero research but I think it's a combination of things. As stated, pitchers aren't doing it in the first place so to ask them to start doing it invites bad throws by the pitcher himself when that hasn't been part of their routine in general for a long time now. I don't remember the last time I've seen a pitch out, for all I know it could be a decade? Longer? Pitchers don't even do that type of throw for intentional walks anymore. With the general lack of base stealing (compared to the days when Rickey Henderson was swiping 100 by himself) I just don't think teams want to create more errors. I also don't feel like they're as concerned with teams being successful on attempted steals. A steal in and of itself doesn't typically create an immediate run. You can still pitch yourself out of the inning.

Rickey might be one of the most underrated baseball players of all-time. Like, JAWS says he's the 3rd best left fielder ever, behind Teddy Ball Game and Bonds. Depending on how you feel about the roids, the fact that there's zero evidence linking him to PEDs might matter too.

He probably like somewhere between the 26th and 30th man on the all-time MLB 26-man roster. I'm not sure people talk about him that way, but they should.

Rickey never struck me as a roids guy.  He was also a bit early than the main roids era.  And building lots of muscle doesn't help basestealing anyway...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Agree completely. And the Hall voters seemed to agree. First-ballot inductee with 95% of the vote.

Who do we have in the que for zero?

We have a new addition to the Curtis Leskanic club this year - Ji Hwan Bae wore zero.

I’m pulling for the Cubs. Need the bye locked up ASAP.

I’d be happy to watch the division clinching win tomorrow night with Henderson on the mound.

I also don’t mind watching the Cubs blow a game to the Braves.

It's a true win-win.

I’m kinda with you in this.   The divsion is over.    But it would also be nice to see cubs drop to 6 spot

I love it when the Cubs lose at home with important things in the balance. If it was at Atlanta, I might pull for the Cubs.

Jeffrey Leonard?

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah, it's bad mojo to root for the team that we really need to stay ahead of with just 11 games left. I do not want to go into final weekend up just 3 on the Braves. Division is over, let's clinch it with our own win.

It would be funny to see the Cubs choke though and miss the playoffs all together

AZ/SD/PHI could all easily pass the Cubs yet

Although SD and AZ play each other last series

4 more wins for the team record, 6 more wins to get to 100 and we have a week off before the playoffs.  No need to ask for help from the Cubs of all teams.

Nearly impossible given that AZ/SD series and that the Cubs have tiebreaker over both. They’d need to really collapse and basically win 2-3 games the rest of the way

Braves tiebreaker watch: we're currently level in terms of intradivision record, having played two fewer games.

We have 2 vs the Pirates and 3 vs. the Cardinals to end the year.

Braves have 3 vs. the Marlins to end the year.

I think we're ahead far enough that it shouldn't matter (magic number is 6 with 22 games left, 11 for each team), but for those keeping track...
