I'll take him starting game one out of the all-star break.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Sounds like he's plateaued in his recovery and its way too early to start thinking about return dates. Hopefully the check up tomorrow goes well.

It went well

Craig Counsell on @MLBNetworkRadio said that Jimmy Nelson got "good news" in LA during his doctor visit. "Everything is structurally healed the way the doctor wanted."

More from McCalvey

More Jimmy Nelson: "From the whole beginning of this process, I was trying to get back better as soon as possible. The deeper I get into this, the more I realize it’s more about the bigger picture, which is my career."

I think the recent Zach Davies news should cause some pumping-of-the-brakes on the Nelson optimism. Davies is coming back from minor shoulder trouble (particularly when compared to Nelson) and is experiencing soreness and generally crappy pitching, to the point where he might go back on the DL.

I continue to think that anything the Brewers get from Nelson this year will be a bonus.

Some have setbacks, others don’t. Not sure one has anything to do with the other.

Read that he was shut down for a 10 day break, and just resumed throwing off flat ground. Looking like a post all-star game return at best

Maybe the smart play is adding him in August anyways. I mean he will definitely be on an innings limit and if this is a playoff team it might be of better use for him.

Nelson could be our right handed version of Hader....

Jimmy's hair is way to short for that. Even if he stopped cutting it when he got hurt, he couldn't grow that mane!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I'm more concerned about Jimmy Nelson's career than his season. Shoulder injuries can be a death warrant for pitchers. Much more career threatening than an elbow injury. There's no guarantee he comes back to form. Ever.

^This.

I've been cautiously optimistic about his return this year. At times I've gotten excited and let myself think he'll come back and be a stud, like he was prior to the injury. But really, I'm very worried about him ever getting back to the form he was in last year. Shoulder injuries are no joke.

I'm optimistic he can return to form. He's been handled extremely delicately. If there is even an inkling that something is off, he'll remain on the shelf. It wouldn't surprise me at all if his first appearances are out of the pen or he starts and goes through the order once or something.

I’ve seen a lot of members in other threads throw out all kinds of Nelson timeline comments and I felt the Nelson comments were getting a bit off topic so I will reply here instead.

Above is an update on Jimmy Nelson and where he stands. It unfortunately doesn’t mention how far he is throwing which would be pretty beneficial in guessing his return.

From the sounds of it an early August return is best case...end of August is probably the worst case scenario. Later than that he would probably have to suffer a pretty big set back.

It looks like they took a snippet from Adam McCalvy’s Sunday ARTICLE.

Here is the full transcript from McCalvy’s update on Jimmy Nelson...

Nelson 'trending in right direction'

Sunday marked one month since rehabbing right-hander Jimmy Nelson's check-up with the doctor who performed his shoulder surgery, and he told Milwaukee radio station 105.7 FM The Fan that "it's trending in the right direction right now."

There is no timetable for Nelson to throw off a mound or to return to the Brewers' rotation, because those benchmarks all depend on his repaired right shoulder. He is currently working back toward throwing 150 feet on flat ground, the distance he was at before a shutdown period before and after a visit with Dr. Neal ElAtrrache.

"The last week or two is the best it's gone so far," Nelson said. "Right now, there's a lot of good signs. It's been responding better than it has this whole process. I'm not behind schedule or anything. I'm still on schedule or maybe even ahead of schedule. It's just the fact I got so far ahead of schedule, whenever you get shut down for 10-12 days, everybody starts freaking out."

Nelson said he is down 25 pounds from the start of Spring Training.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
