Dag. Was really hoping we’d pull the trigger on Peyton Stovall though. Boring draft picks so far compared to who was still available when they’ve picked but high floor type guys with a good chance to make a major league roster.

Black is likely to come off the board a little bit before this (maybe even right before this pick, to Milwaukee), but as a contact-oriented middle infielder, he’s the Rays’ type of player.

I would have preferred Binelas who we hopefully pick in round two but I like this pick. He looks like a solid hitter with some power who can probably play second or third. Not a fan of small school players fearing the low level of competition but he appears to have a solid hit tool with some pop as well.

IMO this draft has been... solid. Not as flashy as Day 1 of last year's draft but overall Frelick and Black seem like solid players.

If you find yourself saying the same thing in multiple posts, maybe rethink that. Repetition does not make the argument, or complaint, more compelling, and it gets frustrating for others. At the same time, if you find yourself contributing to the discussion turning into something about a poster rather than, say, the draft, maybe also rethink that.

 

I said earlier that I imagined we'd pick a guy who fell, that search for value seems like the most consistent track record of recent Brewers drafts, and that's exactly what happened. Also I like the emphasis on guys who put the bat on the ball, often enough the doubles in the low minors start to leave the park as players mature. Not always, to be sure, but it seems to happen more often than a guy with a lot of swing and miss suddenly starting to make contact. I may of course be overreacting to current trends, e.g., on the big league team...

 

Also, Sal seems like a good name for a Milwaukee player.

This draft for has been a bit irritating in that the guys who I wanted to fall ended up getting picked a few picks ahead of us (House, Ford). Madden would've been an amazing pick at 33, but of course the Tigers nab him just one pick ahead of us.

I like Frelick’s hit tool for sure, but my favorite aspect of his game is just the sheer intensity he plays with. He can be a real spark plug and get the energy going. There’s a true value in that.

 

I had the thought that there was a good chance we’d snag somebody who slid a bit. When House slid a bit, that would have been the dream. But, regardless, Frelick was good value. Stearns and his team love taking advantage of market inefficiencies. Remember, the front office is willing to take advantage of that, regardless of whether it’s a high school guy or college. The trend is zig while others zag and get value. That’s the overarching approach with this front office.
