I saw Adames hit into a double play, they went to commercial break, they came back, and Lauer is standing on 2nd in the bottom of the 3rd still and I'm confused.

Replay wasn’t meant for that stuff.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Pitching is going to have to carry them for a few days I am guessing.

A stretch of hitting like they did usually is followed by a dry spell.

Pitching and defense. Hitting comes and goes. It’s why we are 20 games over. It gives them a chance to win nightly.

If my count is correct in 56 pitches to Brewer position players in this game there have been only 3 "non-foul" strikes, 2 swinging and 1 called.

edit: actually 4 I guess, 2 called, 2 swinging

Since Adames first inning HR yesterday, the Brewers have 4 scratch hits and that’s it. Only one that blooped into the outfield.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Eric Lauer has seized his opportunities! Probably the best 6th man in the league.

He’s pretty good. That trade continues to look better and better. Lauer would be a 3 on quite a few teams.

This is setting up nicely for the Axeman to get his first save for the Brewers in about a decade.

Lauer would have been the number 3 on our 2018 NLCS team

Trent Grisham is obviously a good player, but he wasn’t very good offensively the second half of last season’s 60 game schedule, and he hasn’t been very good in the 43 games since he returned from a hamstring injury this season…

2021 (from June 12 to August 1): 43 games / 173 PA / .196 BA / .294 OBP / .345 SLG / .639 OPS

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yeah, I'll happily admit I was absolutely wrong about Lauer. I don't know if the Brewers have gotten incredibly good at developing pitching or what but there are a lot of really amazing success stories on the mound this year. Chris Hook and whoever runs the "pitching lab" really deserve a pat on the back and a raise.
