What's bugging you? ~ 2022 ~

I remember hearing music that was 25 years old.  I don't remember hearing music that was 45 years old.  And I wasn't hearing oldies every place I went.

Now it seems that all the public spaces that I find myself are appealing to MY youth, instead of TODAY's youth.  Grocery stores, Target, shopping centers, outdoor spaces...there are loads of people around, not all of them in the AARP crowd.  And we're all living in the past.

I can't go for that.  No can do.

Sounds like someone is "Out of Touch"  ;)

I would guess the reason that genre is played most often is because it has wide appeal and is likely to "offend" the least amount of people.

No, it's actually quite popular with the younger crowd.  Started a few years ago with that Whitney Houston song and has expanded.  80s music is easier to sing along to than what is coming out now, and they like to sing along.

I think a lot of it has to do with streaming. We can go select any song in history whenever we want and we typically go listen to things we know. Back in the days of radio, we were introduced to new music by the DJ and sort of had to listen or change the station.

The internet in our shop went out of Thursday. They originally said they'd come out on Friday. On Friday, near the end of the time they said they'd be there a customer service rep came in and said the service tech couldn't make it and we'd have to reschedule. We asked him if he could do that and he said no we'd have to call or go online to reschedule. So they sent us a customer service rep who couldn't help us to tell us the person who could isn't coming and he can't help us reschedule. Kind of makes me wonder why he's there. Finally today a service tech came to fix it. Or so we thought. Problem is, when AT&T fixed the internet they disabled our phone. So we called them and they told us they can't come out until Friday. It's a business line and we are heavily reliant on phone services and they can't come out to fix the mistake they made on Tuesday until Friday? Now we're trying to get them to forward that number to our cell phone. Last attempt they told us it would take fifteen minutes. That was over an hour ago. Still no forwarded number. God I hate AT&T.

The Chinese restaurant around the corner closed down last week.  It was my favorite place to get takeout from.  When I couldn't use my kitchen for two months because of the structural repairs I got takeout from there at least three times a week, and probably once a week since.  I got to know them, and they recognized me as one of their best customers - whenever I called for takeout no matter how busy they were they always told me 10 minutes and put me at the front of the line.  We talked about them getting ginger root from Wisconsin.  I felt like Norm at Cheers.

They told me that business had been slow since COVID started.  Reading between the lines I got the impression that they were a victim of many people blaming Chinese people in the U.S. for COVID.  Sad.

There is another Chinese restaurant about a 2-3 minute further walk in the other direction.  Their food is good, but they serve takeout in Styrofoam containers, and that bothers me.  Plastic containers aren't a lot better, but at least they're recyclable and I can reuse them for food storage.  Maybe I'll go there early and bring my own container.  There is a Thai restaurant around the corner, but they're $3-4 more expensive for their lunch specials.

Our front gate faces north and in the winter when we get freezing rain/blowing snow, moisture gets into the keyhole and it freezes.  I did a search for keyhole cover and was shocked that I couldn't find anything like that.

It's a gate so both knobs are going to be on the outside.  I don't think that a keypad will work with the gate.  Any ideas on how to prevent moisture from getting into the keyhole?

Out here that's always an issue with locks in the wintertime, between the precipitation and the hoarfrost.  I've never seen anything actually work against these elements, aside from the old standard:  keep a propane torch handy.

I am wondering if something like Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape would work.  It says it is permanent but I think you could remove the tape though it is going to be a pain to get the residue off.

Otherwise petroleum jelly should also work.  Put your key inside the petroleum jelly and then insert into keyhole and jiggle it around.  Will probably have to do this a few times.

No this is not a sexual joke you sickos!

but what about the 10 years of feeling like a failure that he went through?

I just want to be clear, I KNOW how bad so many people in this Country have it...we're not..."victims," and things are being resolved. There are people...who I saw first hand couldn't pay rent and who were desperate and they were good people.

It sucks that there are losers out there who deliberately choose to take advantage of other people.  I've been dealing with one of those for the last 3.5 years, not quite to the scale of what you've been through, but the stress is real.  I had to deal with over six months of stress literally hanging over my head wondering whether my roof/ceiling would collapse, then being unable to use my kitchen/living room for two months, and then the other owners of the building refusing to pay for part of the repairs to the building.  Now I'm dealing with another loser trying to steal my parking space.

I'm worried about the physical effect of the stress that he went through and what that has done to his longevity.

I just thought of something - wrap some heavy-duty aluminum foil over the knob.  Take it off when you need to use your key, and then put it back on.  It should keep the rain/sleet/snow out of the keyhole and the frost should accumulate on the foil, not the knob.

This might get spicy but.....

I am getting a little annoyed with posters only quoting one stat when comparing players.  Please use more than one stat preferably 3-4 if you are trying to defend your point on a player positive or negative.

For example saying x player is good because they have a WRC+ of y doesn't really say anything.  A better use would be player x should be playing more because their WRC+ is y, average is z and their BB% has improved.  It is also ok to put in your opinion on things that are concerning like player x's BABIP is above league average and their K% is high.

So to put it all into one thought:

Player X should receive more playing time because their WRC+ is one of the highest on the team all while increasing their batting average to the highest it has been since they were a rookie.  Some causes for concern on Player X are their high BABIP and high K% but this is being off set by their increased BB% and LD%.  After looking at this information Player X should be starting more games but should be removed from the lineup if their average and BB% start to decrease and their K% increases any further.

Not as inflammatory as some of the other posts in some threads have become and it actually encourages more discussion that isn't a circle jerk.

If you're going to use one stat, wRC+ is the one to use...it already includes hits, walks, and total bases.

Salmon populations are in serious decline.  The feds shut down all silver (coho) fishing on the Kuskokwim as of 12:01AM 8/17.  This is unprecedented, silvers have never been closed here before.  We drift netted last Friday and got some, but not as much as hoped for. I hope the surveys find a later than usual run this year.  More importantly I hope they get figured out the factors that contribute to the lower numbers across all species and help the fisheries rebound instead of decline even further.

Sure but if you have two players with a wRC+ of 123 which one is better?  Always best to quote more than one stat even with the ones that include just about everything.

If you have two players at a wRC+ of 123 one could be getting there because of their slugging and the other because of their OBP.

They've been doing some road work in front of our shop. They decided to take out two chunks of sidewalk. One just to the left of the only door to our shop and one just to the right of the only door to our shop. I get they have to do infrastructure work like that but can't they leave one way open so people can get into our shop?

I don't care what anyone says but summer is essentially over and I'm now going to be depressed for the next 7 or 8 months. September and October are just warm fall. And I hate fall.

I can honestly say that I have never heard anyone say they hate fall before.  Most people hate winter.  I have heard plenty of people that dislike summer for the heat and bugs.  But personal consensus is pretty much Winter, Summer, Spring and Fall.  I personally love fall in Wisconsin.

Finishing my fourth straight month of working noon-9 and have another one or two to go. Not enough time to run errands in the morning and certainly not at night, so everything has to be packed into my days off, which isn't enough time to get everything done.
