Houston's catching has been terrible - Maldonado has almost been Cain-bad this year and last year and Castro has been Cain-worse this year.  Certainly reason for them to make a trade, even if it's just for the proverbial rookie ball lottery ticket.  The Mets' offensive production from catcher this year has also been offensive.  Cleveland and the White Sox have also struggled at catcher, especially the White Sox with Grandal on the DL.

Plenty of teams with a reason to give up at least a low-level prospect for Severino.

With how Severino was crushing the ball in Spring Training and given that the offense is the main question mark with this team, I hope the Brewers do everything possible to keep Severino on the roster. While he is ineligible for the postseason, he may have a role in helping to get us there, particularly if he can play an adequate first base against lefties.

He has a career .677 OPS.  He should never play anywhere except catcher.

The White Sox make a lot of sense for a trade.  They have a glut of OFs - Robert, Pollock, Vaughn, Jimenez, and have Haseley and Sheets in AAA.  Wonder what the Brewers would have to add to Severino to get Haseley from them.

I'm talking about first base against lefties as opposed to Hiura, who still strikes out too much for my comfort and can be optioned back to AAA. And Severino has a .765 career OPS against LHP, including .818 last season. That will play in our lineup and help with our woes against LHP.

I'm assuming it's been said they can keep him down another 15 days from when he's been reinstated, I expect the brewers to do that. I think Catrinie could fill the same roll as Severino considering he screwed the club from the get-go.

If he can do it, more power to him. We have seen this before with varied results. It would be nice to keep him around somehow incase one of the other 2 guys goes down. That being said, if Jackson fills that row the result of the regular season and they keep the roster spot open for someone else. I'm OK with that too. Lets be honest, Severino is not a great bat, so just cutting him and eating the half a years salary, isn't terrible either.

I think the idea is to have Severino as the 3rd catcher / backup 1st if this works out. caratini has earned the backup catcher spot.

There's also the possibility the Brewers fall off the pace in the next 5 weeks, and end up being soft sellers at the deadline: Boxberger, Narvaez, Peterson, etc. For that contingency plan, they probably won't be too quick to cut bait on Severino.

If the Brewers end up selling off, I'd hope to see Feliciano over Severino.  Severino might be a decent backup C, but Caritini is playing much better than we could expect from Severino.  I can't see keeping him for a backup 1B against LHP.  That seems a bit too niche for our needs.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

We're talking about something I don't believe would happen. But in that event I too would rather see Feliciano at least share the job.

The idea of Severino being an added bat, even a platoon one, just doesn't feel right to me given the post-season ineligibility. And I agree he doesn't fit the mold of someone on our bench versatility-wise. I'd love to flip him but have a hard time seeing someone being interested.

small sample size in just eight games, but here's the slash line for pedro severino on his rehab assignment across two minor league levels: .387 / .457 / .973

Because catcher has been one of the Brewers relative strong points on offense, I would be more interested in seeing if he could be included in a trade to a team needing a catcher in exchange for a better hitter at another position, including someone who actually has experience playing first base

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Would be awesome if he showcased himself enough in triple A that a team gives a lottery ticket prospect or a reliever / OF vet that could help.

with only three games left to play on his rehab assignment, the slash line of .118 / .118 / .176 and a strikeout rate of 35.3% with nashville isn't helping. unfortunately, the strong showing with biloxi didn't carry over.

kind of what I expected when he was signed (maybe a little higher, but not much). I think its clear what they need to do.

Severino is back in Milwaukee

He is eligible to join the team tomorrow

‪I assume Hiura will be demoted to Nashville

If not, who might be the odd man out?‬

Surely not Caratini

Wonder if this is a showcase instance, a warm body until Taylor returns or if they plan on keeping 3 catchers all season. With Renfroe and Taylor coming back soon, not sure how there is room for a .200 hitting 3rd string catcher / 1st baseman that never actually played first in the bigs.

Kinda funny how Taylor is hit in the head Thursday but isn't deemed to be IL-worthy until Severino is eligible to come back.

I just hope we don't have a week full of key late AB's in the nine-hole. If we hit for Davis I guess it would be McCutchen moving to CF, or Peterson suddenly becomes even more versatile.
