Today’s game is on the weekend 10 Pack.

In addition to the high number of clunkers that the Weekend Pack has featured the last two seasons (including the recent 8-2 loss to the Nats) it’s hard to get excited about a game with the Brewers facing a dominating LHP with a lineup that will probably be without 3 of its 4 competent right handed hitters.

Hooefully this will be one of those baseball games that defies logic, but where are the runs going to come from with a lineup looking something like this against Gore:

McCutchen DH

Hiura 1B

Yelich LF

Taylor RF

Peterson 3B

Cain CF

Wong 2B

Reyes SS

Jackson C

There’s no order that you can put those hitters to make it significantly better. Maybe Urias will be able to play and one of the players on IL will be activated.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

^ We have to hope for a dominant lhp performance of our own.  Ashby is capable, if he looks like he looked last time out, theres a good chance.  But its definitely a rough spot in the season injury wise.  And I agree, Counsell doesn't have a lot of choices as is with the lineup.  It is what it is.

I hope the Padres don’t have an advantage because they just faced Ashby last week.

They didn’t have much success but, unlike the Brewers with Gore, they have seen his stuff.

Cain hitting sixth. Reyes and Jackson also in the lineup. Tells you all you need to know about our current injury situation. If we can pull out one of these next two games, I will be absolutely thrilled. The price you pay when you slow-play injury recoveries like they are seemingly doing with Renfroe and Adames.

Who are the backup infielders … especially at SS?

If Peterson moved to SS, who would move to 3B?

I assume Urius is not available do to swelling on his thumb

That's a lineup that the 2004 team that Counsell was on might even be able to beat. Hopefully it is one of those games where one can exclaim "that's baseball" and the Brewers somehow score a bunch of runs.

I will fearlessly predict that Reyes will try to join Chad Moeller in the category of least expected Brewer to hit for the cycle today.

The injury situation is bad, but IMHO it also exposes the weakness and lack of depth in the regular lineup without the injuries.

Adames, Renfroe, and Urias are solid hitters, but not exactly superstar level. When they are in the lineup they are accompanied by some pretty weak links.

The Giants have had a lot of injuries to their position players, but they are still second in the league in scoring.

It’s apparent that the Brewers are going to use at least the Monday off day to give Adames and Renfroe those extra days. Any game they get in this series will be a bonus, and they were lucky that Rogers couldn’t find the plate in the 9th inning on Thursday.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Of course, Hiura is playing against a LHP today, it's the CC Golden Rule. And yes, I understand the injury situation, but batting 5th?????

My website is back to normal today, no more faded print.

You’re right. They should bat Cain, Reyes, or Jackson 5th….

Just remember when seeing that lineup, the bench is: Urias (limited or unavailable), Yelich (possibly limited or unavailable, and terrible), and Caratini (catcher).  So it's possible there isn't even a bench today.

Given how everyone seems to get hurt, there's probably about a 5% chance a pitcher will have to play an inning in the outfield at some point.

Ashby has pretty nice movement at 98 MPH.
