Game Thread (9/06/2022): Brewers (Woodruff) at Rockies (Kuhl) - 7:40 PM CDT

Unfortunately, you could kind of see this coming.  You can’t keep the Rockies hitters down at home, our bullpen was pushed yesterday to get a win, and, yet don’t know, it just a had a bad vibe the whole night (to me, at least) despite the nice start by Woodruff.

I guess go get ‘em tomorrow??  I’m just going to try to enjoy baseball the last few weeks.

Flabbergasted by the decisions tonight. I get that no lead is protected in Colorado… but 6-1? Come on. I think the Counsell magic started wearing thin when the league started instituting rules that went against him getting too cute.

If the goal is to get "bites of the apple"...

  1. Chipped a tooth trying to take a bite this year
  2. Better to start getting struggles like Mitchell's out of the way now than next April if there is intent to contend. That means thanking Narvaez, McCutchen, and Wong for their service, shutting them down and getting Feliciano, Turang, plus Frelick and/or Weimer into the lineup.

So I wasn't able to watch today until the end, can someone walk me through how Perdomo and Strezlecki blow the game in the 8th with no one else pitching?  Is this another one of the magical new rules where someone can't pitch three days in a row even though pitchers have been doing that forever?

If the Padres lose tonight the Brewers are only 2 games out of the wildcard.

I'm not willing to give up the ship.

Burnes-Woodruff-Peralta can give the Brewers a shot at the title.

There was a time in the not so distant past where 7 pm to 10 pm every night was when I watched the Brewers.

Have probably watched less than 5 total hours this season and haven't watched a full game.

Short indeed. Zero chance he's fired.

Of course he won’t be fired. But I think there’s an argument that he should be.

With the tiebreaker it'll be 3 or 4 after the Padres game tonite.

Yes.

You should let MLB.com know that.

But it doesn't matter. The Brewers are right in this.

I'm sick of the Negative Nellies around here.

If you do not know how the tiebreaker works just tell us you don't understand it. Maybe others will explain it to you lmao.

There is nothing we can count on*.

The starting pitching has been variable, tonight it was great.

The bullpen has been OK, but we clearly need some guy at the top that will move everyone else down in priority.

* It's baseball, there's nothing you can ever count on in an individual game.

We still have a chance to get in the playoffs, but it will require some underperforming parts of our roster to start performing. There's still the chance that our starting pitching will dominate and we'll ride them through the playoffs.

The chances aren't great.

Would be nice if SD or Phi would win games and make it blatant we weren't making the playoffs. Can't jettison these guys until you're officially out of the playoffs. I believe at least. Since the 3 weren't on the team start of Sept that they can't be put on playoff roster?

As for the game. Perdomo pitches 2 clean innings in return. Goes back out and in 8pitches gives up 4runs. Now Counsell can't be put on the hot seat for that Appearance.  What puts him on the hot seat is removing your Starter once again below 100pitches when dealing.  Why if you're down to your bottom 2 in order for bullpen first ups are you not letting Woodruff at least face 2more batters? Don't want him to finish with a 7IP 3ER line? DH this year and CC continues to remove the good Starts too early.

We’re 46-50 since May 21st. It’s amusing that you still think this sinking ship of a team has a chance to win the World Series.,

4 games out. Brutal night.

Brewers blow 6-1 lead while Padres come back after being down 5-0.

About as brutal as it can get. Go to bed confident and maybe tied for the wild card after the Rockies series to this. So disappointing.

I didn't watch the debacle; just woke up to the disastrous box score.

Obviously, the 3-batter relief rule is designed to increase the probability of a high-scoring late inning (along with supposedly speeding up the game, but that runs counter to the first point in my opinion).

But with a 14-man pitching staff and a starter which just threw 7 innings, was there any logical reason for allowing Perdomo to pitch to a 4th batter? Isn't the manager supposed to be relieved to finally get through 3 rough at-bats and make the switch?
