Does anyone know the lowest winning percentage (above zero) for a pitcher in a season? I see where Zack Greinke lost Sunday to run his record to 1-14.

John Cassidy went 1-20 for the Brooklyn Atlantics in 1875 and Jack Nabors went 1-20 for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1916. Those are the 2 worst records minimum 1 loss I can find in MLB history.

Post integration the worst I can find is Mike Parrott who went 1-16 for the Mariners in 1980. He won the season opener then lost 16 straight to end the year. He was traded to the Brewers in March of 1982 for Thad Bosley but never played another MLB game after the trade.

Anthony Young also went 1-16 for the Mets in 1993. Between May 1992 and July 1993 he lost 27 straight decisions which is the longest losing streak in MLB history.

So Greinke is flirting with history at 1-14.

Close as I can find is Harry Colliflower who went 1-11.

Lots of crazy seasons with 40 loses though. 48 loses by John Coleman. I'm sure 1-11 isn't the worst, but...can't get too much worse.

Maybe Grienke will go back down to A ball and try Shortstop now!

Anthony Young should have been the most obvious choice!

I see Grienke has 0.3 WAR this year. Can’t be that bad 🙂

Greinke has allowed too many homers, 24 in 123 innings pitched. His other stats aren’t far off his marks from the last 2 seasons.

Hard to rack Ws when you’re prone to giving up homers and play for a bad offensive team.

That's his 2nd arrest in 4 years. He got 20 games last time, I see a full season next.

He’s going to get blacklisted regardless at this point as an impending FA.

He’s never throwing another pitch in MLB again.

The Dodgers starting rotation is now down to Kershaw, Bobby Miller, Lance Lynn, Emmett Sheehan, and... ?

Suddenly they aren't looking like the steamroller many thought they were.

Until we here the details,he could be back. There's been plenty of guys who've have done this and come back.

Yeah, there have been. But times are a changing. He's going to have to pretty much prove his innocence at this point. At least in the Court of public opinion.

This is a guy who was not just arrested for Domestic Violence(like he was in 2019 and already suspended) but Felony. People see that, they assume it's particularly bad(not that there is good DV, but felony DV suggests it's Jim Brown like DV. At least in my mind).

But sure, we should wait and see the actual outcome. I'd still start working on my Korean or Japanese were I Julio Urias.

Talented players will get plenty of opportunities ! Isn't Atlanta's Ozuna in trouble with the law plenty of times ? Don't recall what it is !

Eh, you're right. I guess the fallout will largely be dictated by the severity of the accusations, but at the very least, he went from arguably the 2nd highest ranked FA and a contract that would likely have eclipsed 150M to a lengthy suspension and a LOT of money.

An MLB article on how the trade deadline affected 10 teams did not mention the Brewers (while mentioning STL and citing the Yankees for doing nothing), which was weird. I did notice this blurb on the Mariners:

General manager Jerry Dipoto was uncharacteristically quiet during trade season, sending Trevor Gott and Chris Flexen to the Mets and Paul Sewald to the D-backs. Trading your closer away isn’t typically a vote of confidence for the rest of the team, but Seattle -- which was 55-51, five games out in the AL West and 3 1/2 back in the Wild Card race -- has been one of the hottest teams in baseball during the past month. The Mariners’ 21-6 record in August thrust them into the AL West and Wild Card races, as the offense has come alive and Andrés Muñoz has excelled since taking over the closer role.

Surprised Seattle's season wasn't ruined after the trade of their closer.

It was reported that there was some clubhouse discontent after the trade, but the players recognized that it was somewhat earned through their poor play. I bet the reaction would have been different if the Mariners were holding a playoff spot at the time of the trade. And Sewald is far from a traditional closer and certainly not a star like Hader.

Yah...if Trevor Bauer got blacklisted, Urias is quite unlikely to pitch in the MLB again. Especially considering this isn't even his first time with DV happenings.

That being said, sounds like he should worry about staying out of jail first.

Obviously, when Trea signed that contract he didn't think the Phillies would be a good enough team to be in playoff contention this year.

He and his wife were verrry happy about that contract.

It appears Shohei Ohtani is rage quitting the Angels after clearing out his locker yesterday.

He’s injured, hasn’t played for two weeks and is headed for surgery then free agency.

Clearing out his locker now instead of at the end of the season seems like a sensible decision to me.

I’ve seen speculation that the Angels aren’t IL’ing him because they are so marginally below the luxury tax line they sending him to the IL and calling up someone to replace him could push them over the luxury tax line. If that’s true it’s an embarrassment for the franchise and league.
