Anything fun happen last night? I was busy rearranging my sock drawer, didn't watch any baseball.

So all of you were pretty excited about Sal Frelick's debut... so much so that Brewer Fanatic had its busiest day of 2023, with almost 4,000 of you dropping by to talk about the rookie.

Just after game time, the site had about 400 people browsing it at once, which is the most I've seen since last year's deadline and *maybe* post-Contreras trade.

Let's go for the series win today!

Going to the game today and hoping for a good contest.

Im apprehensive about Teheran based on his recent starts, but maybe he’ll come up with something special against a former team.

Elder has been rocked in his last two starts, and the Braves have lost 6 of their last 9, so maybe the door is open for the Brewers to book another series win.

If the Brewers are going to lose today I hope they can do it without using much from the top relievers. I want them fresh for the big series with the Reds and those “two game swing” games. A loss today and two out of three from the Reds would still be a decent homestand.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I'd consider that a good homestand. There's no shame whatsoever in losing two of three to the Braves, provided they turn around and take two of three from the Reds. The Braves don't really matter until October.

Lineup prediction:

Yelich 7

Contreras DH

Adames 6

Miller 3

Caratini 2

Monasterio 5

Frelick 9

Turang 4

Wiemer 8

Maybe try Jones at 2B today?

We are facing a Righty.  It's imperative we get our only man on the 25 hitting below the Mendoza in the cleanup spot.  Can't believe you don't have Winker in this lineup.

I suppose Winker ‘is due’ for a breakout. I genuinely believe Winker does not make it out of July on the roster. Squinting hard, he recently had some timely walks and singles but I can’t imagine keeping him on our playoff roster.

With Tellez out for a couple more weeks (and who knows if he’ll start hitting then), it would be malpractice for the Brewers not to pick up almost any 1B/DH (and maybe 2) at the deadline.

I think they need both 1B and DH. I’m not sold on Tellez coming back and hitting after a pretty gruesome hand injury.

The DH doesn’t even have to be a pure DH. Guy could be any position just needs to be able to hit.

Edit: Brewers are last in fWAR at both 1B and DH. 1B they are almost 2 times worse than 2nd worst. Those positions absolutely need to be upgraded.

Yelich first and Frelick fourth is illogical to me. I can see not wanting to mess with a good thing by moving Yelich out of leadoff, and I can also see not wanting to put Frelick into a pressure position. But, if you’re willing to bat Frelick in the cleanup spot, why not just put him first and move Yelich with his HR potential third or fourth.

I feel like people are reading more into the Wiemer on the bench 2 days in a row thing than needs to be. Wiemer has played a lot this year and hasn't had many days off especially when you consider he's a rookie CF. There isn't a drop off going from Wiemer to Perkins defensively so this is likely just giving Wiemer a couple days off after a long season for him. Very unlikely that he's being traded or benched.

Agree.  Wiemer has had two injury shortened minor league seasons prior to this year where he played in a little over 100 games each season, I think.  He's already near 100 games played this season- I think these days off are just needed rest

I see your point but lineup construction matters so little I don’t get worked up about it.

Play your best nine and put the best guys near the top of the lineup so they get the most PAs. That’s 95% of lineup construction taken care of very simply.

Wiemer also has a 66 wRC+ vs RHP compared to a 137 wRC+ vs LHP.

Perkins is at 90 wRC+ vs RHP and 41 wRC+ vs LHP so far this year.

Yep……and Perkins also a quality defensive centerfielder……in a game we are going to need offense it’s not hard to understand.

I won’t be surprised if they start platooning Joey much more often as we go forward…….

He just had 4 days off last week with the all star game. I hope they don't start platooning him.

Why?  The numbers certainly suggest a platoon would be appropriate.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I agree with this. The other thing is the L-R-L-R idea, which CC admittedly doesn't always adhere to but can in this case by dropping Adames one spot & leaving Contreras alone.

Everything being equal, the young man belongs 1 or 2.
