Even with a Brewers loss today, the magic number continues to go down, meaning we get this sweet Mark Reynolds pic. Mark wasn't good at much, but he could definitely hit dingers.

Thanks for continuing to crap the bed, Cubs! And to think ... there were a few ready to hand them the division a couple weeks ago.

Not even a few weeks ago. Just a little over a week ago, we had a certain someone telling us to pay more attention to the wild card race.

They might not make playoffs.   Just a cautionary tale for us too.   It can all go pear shaped in a week if you lose 5-6 in a row.

Dont look now, but the Reds are now on the verge of passing the Cubs. So we also need to root for Reds losses.

Our magic number over the Reds is 5 because we own the tiebreaker.

If Brewers finish 4-9, Reds would need to finish 11-0.

Point being the Reds are not a concern.

I've been keeping my eye on that. Our magic number is 6 on the Reds/7 on the other guys. We have 13 games left. Obviously, we should just win 7 games to close out this thing, but it is worth noting that both of the chasers are currently not in any of the Wild Card slots. They are in desperation mode.

I forgot about tiebreaker - thanks. It's 5.

It was just the Cubs' turn in the "look out for that team" role in the game of NL Central standings roulette.

1st the Pirates, then the Reds, then the Cubs....kind of ironic the dirty birds were the one team that sucked consistently enough to never factor in the discussion or realistic division title angst this season.

I'm just hoping this September swoon doesn't prevent the Cubs from throwing Bellinger a spectacularly dumb longterm contract, giving Steele a huge contract when he's likely overdue for arm troubles with his heavy 2023 workload, or even better giving PCA a 13 yr extension this offseason for him to make a lot of great catches while failing to hit.

And the Cardinals now (well, last weekend) officially have a losing season!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I'm still low key mad that I let myself get sucked into this show, back in the day.  That and Secret Life of the American Teenager.

But I'm pleased that the magic number changed Sunday even though it wasn't due to a Brewers win.

Thanks. Now all day I'm going to be trying to understand. I wasn't a huge fan of Heart but she really has a great voice.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I wonder what it would have been like to be a fan of the Phillies in 1964?
