Brewers (Houser) vs Cardinals (Thompson): 9/20/23, 6:45pm

Think a split is the most likely scenario here and one I'd be okay with given our historical difficulties with STL. They're a bad team for sure, but the lineup can be lethal and we sometimes have difficulties scoring runs as demonstrated on Monday.

If Houser doesn't blow up, which he can do from time to time, and we can put some runs on the board (Houser isn't going to shut them down), I'll like our chances.

Since his callup on July 22, Sal Frelick has been the 9th best OFer in baseball by fWAR, ahead of names such as Carroll, Bellinger, Soto, etc.

And has been the 2nd best defensive OFer.

I can't like this enough... that's really interesting

Houser has shut down the Cardinals before - 9 IP, 3 H, 0 ER on 9/4/21.

Career ERA of 3.19 vs STL.

Yep. Has basically replaced the production (glove included) that we were getting out of Yelich in June/July.

He has, but I don't think you can expect a performance like that. I'd be happy with 5 innings, 3 runs. That'd give us a good shot against the Cardinals' pitching.

The lefties they've had can be an issue, plus how difficult it is to get Goldy to hit the ball on the ground. If Gorman is injured that definitely helps

Yeah. Helps that Arenado is ice cold and that Burleson, Gorman, O'Neil are out. But Contreras, Nootbar, and Walker worry me.

He'll need to be on his game for sure... if you can shut down the Astros though, then you can keep a lid on St Louis, he's a good pitcher still, hopefully the infield defense comes up rosy

He's done the unthinkable, which is playing everyday as a rookie against RHP and LHP on a team managed by Craig Counsell. Pretty remarkable for a guy who wasn't even called up until late July.

Okay man, we're like 150 games into the season so I finally have to ask... do you get excited when the Brewers use an opener or a spot start just so you can rhyme a different name that day?

I am excited every day ... there's always a new rhyme to play!

He has definitely been an OFer and an MFer.

That's where it's at, IMO. If he's locating like he needs to he should get ground balls. The worst starts I recall for him (Toronto & I think someone else) he got a lot of solidly-hit grounders that were hit where they ain't. I'd feel better if Turang was out there in that scenario, but Monasterio has looked pretty good at 2B & Donaldson is fine at 3B.

Santana has also been real good with the glove. Glad to see people noticing that.

I'll guess Caratini catches today, freeing up DH for Contreras since I'm betting Tellez is in the lineup Thursday.

I've been very impressed by him, he has obvious talent & just oozes moxie.

But those advanced stats you brought up.........just wow.😲

Please don't encourage him.

I think Gasser will be good for rhyming next year.
