Yelich came in at 4.1 fWAR in 2023.

Throw some quick and dirty age curve on there and let’s say he comes in at 3.5, 3.0, 2.5, 2.0, 1.0 and that’s about 12 WAR projected over the 5/$136.5M he has left at this point.

At around $10M per WAR (average 2023 rate of production for players in his salary range) the raw negative value on his deal would be under $20M with a 12 WAR projection.

BTV says negative 40 million, so not too far off, nudge the projection or the dollar/WAR some in whatever direction and you are essentially there.

They probably give his trade value a negative hit for the NTC too.

This is probably the closest Yelich’s deal has been to the break even point since he signed it, but I still think the obstacles are a few too many for there to be a realistic chance of him getting dealt this winter.

It's also the reason that Yelich should become the primary DH.  They have to do more to rest his back to keep him in the lineup. He missed 18 games this year - that number can't go up.

I feel a little better knowing the D-Backs played equally as well, if not better vs LA than us. Still hard to watch the games, I'll get over it.

I don't think I realized how much the Woodruff injury specter was preventing me from fully "moving on," from this season. Now that we know that he won't be part of the 2024 picture (sadly), at least now I can start looking forward to the offseason.

Remember Brandon Pfaadt from three weeks ago?  He's starting Game 7 tonight for the Diamondbacks, because of course.

Yeah we roughed him up a bit and then Burnes proceeded to get roughed up even more. Ugh

Since giving up 3 ER in his 2.2 IP vs the Brewers, Pfaadt has thrown 10 IP with 0 ER | 0 BB | 4 H | 11 K in two starts vs LAD and PHI.

I feel a little more vindicated now that the team that beat us is in the WS...but that always seems to happen.

It's not just you. Some of these are obvious since we were playing in a LCS or WS, but:

1981 - Lose to Yankees, who play in WS.

1982 - Lose WS to Cardinals

1992 - 92 wins, Finish 2nd in ALE to the Jays, who win WS

2008 - Lose to Phillies, who win WS

2011 - Lose to Cardinals, who win WS

2018 - Lose to Dodgers in LCS, they lose WS

2019 - Lose WC to Nationals, they win WS

2020 - Lose to Dodgers, they win WS

2021 - Lose to Braves, They win WS

2023 - Lose to Diamondbacks, ??

I've said this a few times before. I will never understand how swinging a bat is easier on your back than playing the outfield. It's so violent.

Maybe one year the Brewers can be the team that gets hot and goes on a run to the WS

Yeah, it's clearly a bigger issue, but you can't change or impact that, you can impact where he plays in the field.

Also...may be totally unrelated, but I've got a friend who is a tank. He doesn't have any problem working all day doing whatever...we spent a weekend cutting down a bunch of trees and splitting and then stacking them up at my Uncle's place.

Then he goes hunting and he's in the blind and his back is killing him and locking up because he's NOT moving and he's sitting too much. So he's fine picking up a 100-pound log, tossing it, whatever, but just standing or sitting and his back starts bothering him.

I don't get it, but can't see why he's be lying to me.

No one said this.

What is true is that swinging a bat is easier on your back than swinging a bat AND playing the outfield.  Being able to rest in the dugout (or maybe going back and stretching out, getting treatment) between ABs is easier than having to be out in the field every half inning.

Since Yeli's value is in his bat (and not his defense), there is no reason to need him out there.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Yeli will undoubtedly need to change his mental focus.  His entire life has included the routine of going out to the field and then coming back in.  From what I understand, this isn't a switch that isn't easily flipped -- or at least not right away.
