Figured we could use a thread to discuss the rest of the postseason...

I'm sure what's on most people's minds right now is that 7 spot the Dbacks have put on the Dodgers in the first two innings. Still early in the series, but it's incredible how we always get matched up with that one team that plays out of their mind once the playoffs begin.

Also, the mighty Braves got shut out by Ranger Suarez and co. Suarez had comparable numbers this season to Colin Rea, who the Braves absolutely lit up.

Takeaway: I hate baseball.

Was just going to note this annoying trend.

'08 Phillies, '11 Cardinals, '19 Nationals, '20 Dodgers, '21 Braves: all World Series Champions

2018, where the Dodgers got us in game 7 of the NLCS in Milwaukee was the only time the team eliminating the Brewers didn't win it all.

82 Cardinals, too.

Every team that's eliminated the Brewers from the postseason has gone onto the WS at least.

Dodgers should be on the phone looking to make a deal for Burnes as soon as the season is over. They have basically zero healthy arms considering the payroll. I would think we could get something done with them. Lux missed the season but I would still take him back.

I assume the dodger farm system is still pretty stacked?

Nobody that would have even close to the impact Burnes would have in 2024.

I'd take one of their MLB ready arms for Burnes.

Not sure they want to part with them but yeah I would too except they seem to all get hurt. Shelby Miller is pitching. That says alot about where they are.

Yep, I saw the score back when it was 6-0 and my first thought was Arizona is going to the WS because every team that eliminates the Brewers goes to the WS.

If Lux is the main piece the Brewers are getting back for Burnes then I wouldn’t even bother trading Burnes. No thanks on a low/no power middle infielder.

No thanks on Lux.  He will be in Arb1 for the '24 season so only two more seasons after that.  Also he isn't really a SS as he is not that great there defensively and he is more of a 2B.  I would rather get someone else than Lux.  Something like Knack, Frasso and De Paula would be what I would be looking at from the Dodgers.  That would be two starters who could be on the roster in '24 and a young slugging OF in A ball.

Of course you wouldn't. When does a team trade a Cy Young winning pitcher in his prime and get back a prospect who's going to immediately approximate his value that next season?

If that's the standard, you're never going to be happy with the return.

An arm like Frasso or Stone could easily be plugged into the rotation for the next nearly 7 years, and you likely get a couple lower level fliers back as well.

There's also Bobby Miller, Pepiot...though I doubt we get either back.

For a year of Burnes, I would expect a couple of top 100 prospect in AA/AAA and change….. maybe not any in top 10, but if we are looking for a return I hope we are aiming for quality young players on the crisp of the majors.

Then again…How about Matt McClain straight up for a year of Burnes?

That first round bye is a disadvantage for everyone except the Astros who are apparently on another planet.

The wild card winners are riding waves of momentum into the second round and five days off is an eternity for batters in particular.

1st round bye doesn't work in baseball. This is not 1 game a week NFL.

Yeah, that'd be idea. If you're targeting pitching, you might only get one top 100 and then 2 more who are younger, high ceiling arms who are further away. I'm fine with that as well.

Definitely not someone just to plug a hole for next year or a guy who has 3 years left and we're just going to find ourselves looking to trade him in 2 years(hopefully as we're getting ready to compete again) because we...don't want to lose that player for nothing.

If Philly gets close and doesn't win again, they may be the team that's the most likely to give up a lot for Burnes/Williams. Hopefully they have a BP meltdown.

Also...I just really hope it's not AZ and Philly in the NLCS as that's just gonna be hard to stomach.

Yeah I agree with you. I meant for the Dodgers, not us.

Burnes won the Cy young in 2021, and has not been in the conversation for that award in either of the past two seasons because he hasn't been consistently dominant since.

I think the Brewers will get a haul for him from somebody for 1 year of control for a really good starting pitcher...but Cy Burnes he is not anymore.

Pretty big odds shift with ARI and PHI winning the first games of their series.

Fangraphs now has the NL teams World Series odds at 18.5% (ATL and PHI) then 9.1% for ARI and 9.0% for LAD.

Game 1 in a best of five is the most crucial game for the away team.  If you can win that and game three the odds are now in favor of the away team.  Lose game one then game two and three are must wins for the away team.

It's not set up well for the LAD and PHI. With the 3 offdays, Dbacks should be able to go Gallen in games 2 and 5 and Kelly in game 4.  Philly should be able to go Wheeler in 2 and 5, Nola in 3, and Suarez in 4. That extra off day in the NLDS this year really gifted the WC teams the ability to start their best pitchers for most of the NLDS and WC.
