Capellan traded to DET

Posted

linky

Young lefty with solid A numbers in return.

As is often the case, Doug gets something of value for a guy people wanted to give away and/or release. Capellan does have a nice ceiling, but short-term, is just another middle reliever.

Capuano to be activated with that roster spot.

I'm disappointed that he never panned out for us, but not really sad to see him go.

Capellan for Gallardo in the pen? I love that trade....oh wait, there's a prospect too?

I'd had enough of Jose, I see this as a significant upgrade.

That's great. Anything is better than nothing which is what he's become. Normally I'd say I hope the change of scenery helps him but he has not endeared himself to me to say that.

I guess what we ultimately got out of Capellan was just justice. After all we made Brave's fans suffer through a year of Dan Kolb. POC trade all around.

Sounds like a good deal. Hes been under performing and caused massive drama. Any left hander in the system is a good thing.

With Dessens and Aquino still not on the 25 man, what does this mean for the likes of Spurling?

Good riddance.

Detroit seems to have no problem with picking up former Brewers with attitude problems. See: Sanchez, Alex and Sheffield, Gary.

I don't recall that. He had an option, why would people want him to be cut?

This seems like an acceptable trade, though the guy is pretty old for A ball.

When the Brewers acquired Capellan, I wondered why the Braves gave up on him so fast. Something didn't feel right.

I guess now we know

The guy dominated low A-ball.

You would expect him to, being a college senior.

I wouldn't call the guy a prospect, but it was just a move to open a roster spot/grant a player's request, so whatever. Capellan wasn't going to have much success being a guy that pitched once every 10 days, and neither will Spurling or whoever replaces Spurling eventually.

I'm impressed with how he improved in his later college years.

Because of the spring buzz around Capellan's antics and the thought of a trade, I think a lot of people thought we could get more than a A+ pitcher. But I trust that DM and GA did their due dillegence in exploring the trades. But I do wonder what teams like Florida (reportedly interested in making a trade for Capellan) were offering for him.

In any case, I hope this guy proves to be a great 'nugget' find by DM and crew.

Edit: changed 'reliever' to 'pitcher'.

Whatever the case may be, good riddance Latin Cappy.

It's almost too bad though that they couldn't trade him to a horrible team like Texas, KC or Washington, though.

Wow, I'm kind of impressed with the guy we got, his stats at least. He's a little old for his level probably, but he is dominating it.

I am glad we got somebody who wants to pitch here. Capellan hasn't looked as good as he did last year. The guy we got was just drafted in 2006.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Hello, Tigers fan here. I don't know too much about Chris Cody, but from what I understand, he's a soft tossing lefty.

I don't really see Capellan as very good, but our bullpen is a disaster, one of the worst in MLB, so I think Dombrowski is trying to shake things up and hope someone can stick and do the job in the late innings. We have AAA type pitchers and Todd Jones, who is even worse, in our bullpen (and have been plauged by injuries), so I don't think Capellan can be any worse than the status quo.

Solid roster management. It's very easy to go through organizational depth once you start having success. Try to tight to hold onto everyone and trade away what you aren't using now. I'm sure there was an element of wanting to get rid of Capellan by the front office, but they also take a surplus of bullpen arms right now and trade down for more depth in a couple of years. In isolation the odds are still probably 50-50 at best that Cody ever pitches for the Crew, but keeping the cupboard of prospects stocked is a constant cycle of moves.

Well that takes care of the move that needed to be made to get Capuano off the DL. I to wonder what there plans are for Dessens when he's healthy if Spruling is gone or if Dessens is gone? We will see.
