Mark A dropping the note that there was no opportunity to match does not mean he would have been willing to. This just as easily could be CC knowing a number the Brewers had told him they wouldn't exceed. In that case there'd be no reason to shop the offer back to Mark as their red line had been clearly expressed earlier. Mark Attanasio seems to be desperately trying to control the narrative right now. Wouldn't at all be surprised if he's trying to save face for the stadium deal.

Something tells me CC won't find continuing to maintain residence in Milwaukee to be as amicable a situation as he hopes....

I will say that any "fan" who actually harasses CC in real life outside of a ballpark is a trash human.

Even if that is true, as a matter of respect, CC should have told MA what the offer was, even if he knew damn well MA wasn't going to match it.  It's just something that should have been done.  The more I read into all this, the more I am convinced that CC just plain wanted out of Milwaukee.

There is a lot of bad blood between Attanasio and Counsell that has obviously been building. I think Counsell specifically wanted to manage in the division and thats just a really bad look in my opinion.

Sounds like things went sour and not all that recently either. Mark A is being waaay too candid, which to me smells like narrative control

Well then call me basura because if I come across him in public I have 3 words prepared for him.

Believe me, I'm not saying harass him in public, though I'm sure some stupid people will.

But in one day he's lost all the goodwill he's built in the city and the state. I wonder if he underestimated the backlash he would receive.

Craig could have ended up as one of the great Brewers ever along with Yount and Molitor and now he will forever be hated by the fanbase he grew up a part of.

You can't walk away from your hometown team for their biggest rivals and not expect a heavy backlash. Clearly Counsell just flat out doesn't care.

Clearly Mark A. cultivated an atmosphere in Milwaukee that CC could not abide, regardless of the money. MA has screwed up big time. This is all on MA. I don't blame CC at all.

I think it's much more likely that part of the Cubs offering the contract they did they would not tolerate him taking their offer back to Milwaukee. I mean, why would they? Take it or leave it offer and I'm sure CC had to know that the Brewers wouldn't be likely to match. That and he wanted to go to Chicago anyway.

Co-worker approached me like a close family member died today… and dropped Counsell bomb. Shocked.  Arrogant prick. Wear that Cubs hat proud and burn that bridge.

I agree.

I do think his personal life is going to change dramatically.   He's not the Brewers manager anymore.

He's their most hated rival's manager.

No, not clearly cultivated… opposite of clearly.
Go with Craig for a while until this team is worthy of your allegiance. Please. None on Attanasio. All on Craig. He’s a Cub and you blame Attanasio? He chose to go dark side.

CC is dead to me.

There are 2 teams, TWO TEAMS that he could have went to that I wouldn't have wished him luck.  The Cubs and the Cardinals.  That's it, those two teams.  Every other team, had he taken the money, I'd have been fine with.

I actually believe that him leaving won't be too detrimental to our future.  I believe that we were in need of a new direction, and that CC really had done all he could in Milwaukee.  I believe that what he was doing was growing stale, and that a change was needed.  So the fact that he left really doesn't bother me that much.  But the Cubs?  The Freaking CUBS?  For that, I will never forgive him.

He knows it was a dick move to move to the Cubs of all teams, but he did it anyway.

Screw him.

To me, it’s one team.

I think it's funny because I'm sure managers are happy that their pay could/will increase but also I feel like the managers are a brotherhood/fraternity as well and Counsell going behind Ross's back to steal his job is something I'm sure will rub a ton of them the wrong way. Total snake behavior from Counsell. He might just be one of the least popular managers in the MLB because of this but he got his money so I'm sure he doesn't care.

Once their salaries go up by $1M-$2M per year they'll get over it quickly.

He didn’t want to manage in Milwaukee any longer, from what it sounds like.

If their salaries go up. There's no guarantee this is some trend that will lift all managers pay.

The small market Brewers offered Counsell more in one season than what the big money Mets will be paying their manager over three seasons.

Wait I heard it's because we're owned by such a cheap bastard that we didn't blow up the market for Chris.
