I think we overpay by a million or so given the Counsell departure on a two year deal.   That would be the obvious smart money bet as a betting man anyway.   What that two year deal looks like idk….but we will pay an extra million due to the bad look of the Counsell bolting is where my safe money will bet .

I have thought this for a few weeks. I think they will trade him, possibly package him up with Adames to the Dodgers.

We could do, though maybe combining Adames with him would be rushed. Given I think the Brewers will have a shot in 2025/26,  I think it makes a ton of sense to go 2 years with a big team option 3rd year, important. Definitely can't be stingy at negotiating table, but he's so so good when fit. And you can write off a short term contract like that easily, it's the extra years that hurt you

They sign him, if they don't look great for 2024 playoffs they trade burnes in the summer but keep woody for 2025 and avoid burning it all down.  If 2025 doesn't look good then they have woody to potentially trade too.  Best path forward imo.

If he's not willing to take a 2 yr ~$18-20M contract that pays just a few million to rehab this season and $15-17M in 2025, with a club option year for 2026 to pay him another $20M, it sucks to say but I'd rather nontender him than offer him arbitration and risk paying him only to rehab and leave in free agency next offseason.  The shoulder injury is also alarming enough to me to justify a simple nontender and wishing him well.

The Brewers are not the Dodgers, who can throw large chunks of payroll at wounded pitchers in hopes they fully recover and can impact the team in future seasons.  Slightly different circumstances, but the Brewers should also take a long look at the dilemma the Rays now have with Glasnow after giving him a small contract extension after he blew out his elbow a few years ago in the midst of his arbitration.  They're now trying to trade Glasnow for what probably amounts to peanuts, because there's no way they want to pay him $25M in 2024 given his injury history and uneven production since he came back from TJ in 2022.

This sums up my opinion perfectly.  If they sign him to a deal that doesn't include a team option, I'm going to be pissed.   Not that anyone cares if I'm pissed, but still...

I’m sure if a multi-year deal was going to be struck it would’ve happened already. Odds are, like any player, Woodruff is more than happy to sign at market rates for a top of the rotation starter. Otherwise he may as well bet on himself and take his chances.

On the other hand, with the ability to be given a Q.O. After ‘24 I doubt the Brewers give Woodruff up for nothing, so he’s either traded today or they tender him in my opinion.

God damnit, well see yea Woody... Better get something good for him.

So Burnes most likely gone as well, I hope Freddy is truly the pitcher we saw this year cuz we're gonna need him as good as this year and better going forward.

Really hope Ashby is healthy... Peralta/Ashby is a damn good start of a rotation.

I think they non-tender him and take their chances of resigning him later. If someone wants to overpay in a trade by the deadline today take it. Why take a chance of paying him a huge amount to rehab and him deciding to become a free agent instead of signing a team friendly extension?

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

We have a top of the rotation pitcher who actually wants to be here. Yes its taking a chance but I'm betting on Woodruff to come back strong. I will be extremely disappointed if he is non tendered or traded for 20 cents on the dollar.

I think we should find a way to keep him long term as the anchor of the staff. Burnes should be traded as he just doesn't want to be here but Woodruff is a great guy who wants to be a career Brewers player. It may mean nothing to most but I enjoy rooting for guys who want to be here.

I expect them to non tender him or trade him for AAAA fodder. Big mistake in my opinion but this ownership just doesn't want to spend.

The best thing for the fans of this team would be for Mark A to just sell to someone with deeper pockets but thats probably not going to happen.

If Woodruff is non tendered a big money team like the Dodgers or Mets will bank on his upside and sign him for far more than we would be willing to give.

Unfortunately the type of injury Woodruff has is very risky and so I'm not sure the Brewers signing him to a multi year deal and banking on him returning to form is the right way to go. If they can get any sort of halfway decent prospect for him they should probably trade as unfortunate as that is. A team like the Dodgers or Mets or whoever can more easily take that risk that we can

I'm beginning to agree, even if he could play by July '23, that would make a huge difference but it's just not feasible, and likely a waste of money to do anything other than trade him
