Fair point, but 4 is about all we get on average from starters not named Freddie. I don't think there's a wrong decision between letting him throw once more in AAA or calling him up now.

Rea and Ross both average 5 IP a start, so that's not quite accurate.  It's pretty risky bringing a guy whose stretched for 4 innings and 50 pitches up for an MLB start. 1 bad inning and you might get a 2 inning start from him.

The Brewers starters on the season have average 4.5, so it's probably pretty close. He'd be about to throw probably 60-65. The problem as you said if he has a bad inning.

I mean...can't get any worse right?

Since last Wednesday...

SP- Wilson 3.2IP. Brewers 0 runs allowed

SP- Peralta 6.0IP. Brewers 1 run allowed

SP- Hall 3.2 IP. Brewers 5 runs allowed

SP- Rea 5.0 IP. Brewers 0 runs allowed

SP- Ross 5.1 IP Brewers 4 runs allowed

SP- Myers 5.0 IP. Brewers 2 runs allowed

SP- Wilson 4.1 IP. Brewers 2 runs allowed

I don't see any reason to rush Gasser.

For the first 35 years of my life, the "normal" was bad Brewer pitching all around with an occasional outlier who was above average.  For the last 5 or 6 years the "normal" is above average pitching all around including multiple examples of excellence (Cy Young/multiple reliever of the Years) and rarely even below average production.

I like the latter.

With seven shutout innings from Civale last night the Brewers post-ASB rotation has a 78 ERA- (tied with HOU for best in MLB) and 4.2 rWAR (3rd).

On the season as a whole they are at a 94 ERA- (8th) and 10.6 rWAR (13th), just fractions behind DET (10.8 rWAR) for the last spot in the Top Ten.

The BAL rotation fronted by Corbin Burnes has a 98 ERA- and 10.0 rWAR.

I imagine they go hand in hand with the stats you laid out, but it seems to me that while it's a lousy-looking ERA, the Brewer pitchers who go 5 innings and give up 3-4 runs at least keep the games in reach. Is there a standard for "blow up" starts, where a starter gives up 5, 6, 7 runs and essentially loses the game? Think Birdsong giving up 5 in 3.2 yesterday. The game wasn't over, but with the Brewers bullpen, it kind of was!  I think the Brewers have had very few of those.

Drop everything, sveumrules!

So who do we see as the top 7 or 8 for next years rotation? Seems like lots of our guys pitching themselves into the conversation.

Woodruff, Freddy, Rea, DL Hall, Myers, Misio, Logan Henderson, C-Rod with Gasser possibly later in the season .  Lots of question marks there but decent upside with the kids.  They will probably sign a middling FA SP as well (maybe Miley returns?).

Miley maybe but gonna be a prove it contract. Just thinking how we always seem to go thru a bunch of starters. Yet we seem to have quite a few ready to go next year. Montas or Civale options picked up?

Montas has a $20M mutual option. Zero chance that is agreed to.  I forogt to include Civale.  He has one more year of arby, probably around $6-7M.  I'd assume the Brewers would keep him.

1.) Peralta- #1 by default

2.) Civale- Foolish not to bring back

3.) Rea- Based on 2024 results

4.) Meyers- Based on 2024 results

5.) Hall- Too good of stuff to not have as #5

Ross- Too good of stuff not to bring back (swingman?)

Woodruff- Keep your fingers crossed

Miley- Keep your fingers crossed

Gasser- Keep your fingers crossed

Misoraski- Starts in AAA or bullpen

C-Rod- Starts in AAA

Henderson- Starts in AAA

I've brought this up in the past but what about a 4 man rotation that has a piggyback. Basically 8 starters that combine to go 7-8 innings limiting pitchers to 60-75 pitches.

1)Peralta-Hall

2)Rea-Ashby

3)Civale-Woody

4)Myers-Wlison/free agent vet/trade acquisition/Hudson

Bullpen- Megill, Hudson, Koenig, 2 of Mears, Yoho, Paredes, Bauk, Wilson Payamps, Hoby, Uribe, Peguero, vet/trade acquisitions (assuming a Devin trade)

Misi, Henderson, CarRod, eventually maybe Gasser, Wichrowski, Smith, Hunt, provide depth. If injuries hit it gets easy to pivot to a 5-6 man rotation. Each guy in theory goes 3-5 innings 40 times a year, rarely would a guy go through a lineup a 3rd time. It also allows some of the injured/young guys a way to build up innings. A 5 man bullpen would not get overworked especially if we have a couple solid taxi guys. I would assume the piggyback would usually go 7 innings, rarely 6, sometime 8, once in a while 9.

I get that our pen depth is a strength and this doesn't really help. In reality we should probably try and turn some quantity in a high end starter. Just a fun idea to think about.

Give Hook a raise.

With CC running south to the north side, I feared losing Hook more than losing CC...
