You do know that MA was the one who reached out to Hoskins agent to get the deal done right? Right?

Shhhhhhh this doesn't fit the broke boy narrative.

Well, they haven't exactly been good at it.  See: Cody Sedlock, Hunter Harvey, Dylan Bundy.  Gausman didn't really do anything until he left.

Don't forget arrieta. And he went to the cubs and they are horrendous at pitcher development, apparently the Orioles are somehow worse than the cubs. I guess there's hope the trade can work out...but on paper this is a bad bad bad bad trade. When you trade a cy young pitcher with "if these 2 guys significantly improve then maybe it's a fair trade"...it's a bad trade

Trading 1 year of a player always brings back a lower return. The Brewers got 12 years of control on two top 100 prospects & a late 1st round pick. Having Burnes for next year would have been fun but for the long term health of the Brewers this is a good trade.

I agree trading Burnes was the right play, Just don't agree that this is the trade.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

So, the extra $15.6M saved from Burnes salary plays big here. If they go and sign a 3b/DH and SP depth, I'd be ok with this deal. As it stands, its a little underwhelming.  I'd have hoped for a few lottery tickets in that deal.  Ortiz and Hall is not a bad return though.  Mayo would have been better.

I do not understand what Arnold is doing at all this offseason. Why sign Hoskins which is a win now move just to trade Burnes for a very underwhelming return.

You can't get a bigger impact for $15.6 million than Burnes was to give you.

As things stand now our starting pitching has gone from a big strength the last few seasons to below average. Freddy and four question marks is not a playoff rotation.

I keep seeing this, as if trading Hoskins in July isn't an option.

I think the thing to do moving forward is to trade guys with two years of control remaining. Burnes should have been traded last offseason not now for this return.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe they have a second deal in the works with the extra money in the budget.

He wasn’t going to be any more valuable in July and has immense potential to torpedo his trade value. Burnes has regressed year after year and there is always the chance of injury.

One year of control just isn’t valuable like it used to be and seems as though there probably wasn’t the market some hoped for. Two weeks before ST and finally the Brewers just had to accept the best offer they could get.

Good riddance to him though. Not really a fan of crybaby millionaires.

I've wanted him traded for a few years now and think they waited at least a year too long to finally unload him.

Besides the Contreras deal Arnold has not done a good job at all.

Lol the Santana & Canha deals were good, signing Wade Miley last year was good. Acquiring Payamps, Peguero, & Megill last year really helped the bullpen. Honestly what moves has he made that ended up outright bad? Even the Wong for Winker deal just ended up trash for trash

You gotta be kidding me!! Arnold better be doing something with pitching, we now have Peralta and 4 question marks. What a joke.

I was stoked for the season after the Hoskins move… Now, can’t wait for us to finish below Cubs and Reds.

I have zero hot takes on this trade. I will wait and see how it all shakes out.

You mean you aren't going to jump to conclusions and act like you didn't just look up who both of these players are in the last 10 minutes and become an MLB scout like 80% of the responders here? Interesting move..
