Is this why he wasn’t traded? Unless we sign snell, holding onto him made little sense

I dunno...you might need a bigger ledge.

Encouraging someone to jump also gets them off of the ledge, right? I mean, the Brewers sent Woodruff to the IL and said "Hey, we're just being cautious..." Wasn't until four months later that we got him back.

And they probably should have gone to the surgery right away...he'd be ready by midseason (if he was ever going to be ready). I'm assuming his second injury was just a worsening of the first, which I don't know for sure.

So who takes over as closer if he is out for an extended period of time?  Uribe?  Payamps?  Someone else?

My guess is Megill.

Anyone see any updates?

I think he's supposed to get the 2nd opinion on Wednesday (3/13)

What exactly was the first opinion?

That his back does, infact, exist

I'd like to see Uribe. Might as well, he looks to be the closer of the future.

Payamps closes if Williams is out, Uribe/Megill/Peguero as 7/8 and if any get in a grove take over for Payamps at some point mid-season.

I am not worried about Williams at this point, we can withstand him being gone for a bit with our bullpen depth. As long as it isn't something major he will keep his trade value as long as the airbender is in tact.

The Brewers have to do something in getting a pitcher and in addressing all the injuries.  Brandon Woodruff, Devin Williams, Wade Miley, Aaron Ashby (Who seems to be always injured) who else, I think I am even forgetting one.

We traded Burns, that is a lot of missing pitchers from last season.

Imo, Megill closes if Williams is out...

I'm don't think that any of these injuries, outside of Devin W, are a surprise.

Woodruff was never counted on, Ashby missed all of last season and has been coming along, and Miley is who he is at this point in his career. These aren't sudden setbacks the organization never saw coming.

I think the Brewers will need more pitching, I'm not sure it's because of what has taken place with these three.

I think maybe more of a closer by committee sort of thing? Megill and Payamps, maybe joined by Uribe later.

Thats how I hope they would do it if Williams was out. Rather than commit to 1 pitcher go by committee and matchups. If it’s a LHH heavy 9th I’d even consider Hoby for the close.

There are also a number of dark horse candidates to fill out the pen like Viera, Bukauskas, etc that I would like to see how they perform.

Most don’t last for long in the role, but many prove themselves adequate in the short term. I prefer right handed closers with big velo, a wipeout off speed pitch and questionable command. Uribe might have what it takes.

I would say Viera and a host of others.

I agree it wouldn't just be Megill, but Vieira isn't that high on the pecking order.
