The 2023 draft class was a class that looked really good even before you factored in potential round 11-20 picks and the amount of 11-20 picks they signed made it look even greater and a year later it has aged extremely well.

I think this 2024 draft class could look good on August 1st, but it will be a lot more reliant on how well they do signing these round 11-20 guys. If they can sign both Broughton and Nunnallee I would feel pretty good overall about the draft. Not as good as last year, but still good overall. Ultimately it will be years before we find out if it was good or bad.

This is exactly why I refrain from judging the draft until at the very least early in day 3, if not until it is over. 7 (?) really interesting High School guys. Even if only 3-4 sign, it can be another fun class. Baseball is a game of patience and long-term results.

Who's going to be the toughest signs on Day 3? If you had to rank based on ability, how would the guys we drafted be ranked?

Have we ever seen a draft this heavy on pitchers?

Last year 16 of the 21 picks were pitchers.

Nunnallee is probably the hardest sign.

So other than Pratt, Wilken, Boeve and Bitonti  every other pick but 1 were pitchers? lol That’s amazing…….

I'm thinking you see money saved offered what value you think that kid is. They say no, you move to next kid with savings make your offer. When you get that 1st to sign, you won't have as much to offer next down the line but you proceed on. Until it's gone. Just remember Brewers spoke with them and that next draft Tampa will draft them lol.  If we dont.

Do we have a bunch of minor league pitchers who are free agents? Before the draft it seemed like our minor league pitching depth was as good as I ever remember and now it seems like there isn't going to be enough spots for everyone.

Maybe a big trade where we give up a bunch of young pitching prospects. I really wish we could have added 2-3 more college bats to challenge some of our weaknesses in Carolina, Appleton, and Biloxi.

Before signing I give this draft a C+, if we sign most of the upside HS players I could go up to B+.

The ACL pitching staff has been shaky at best. There will be spots open in Carolina (and some of the high schoolers if they sign might just go to the ACL).

6.77 ERA, 1.793 WHIP. Sheesh I knew it was bad but man those kids are struggling

I'll be shocked if Dubanewicz signs.

I just looked all staff, I knew they were rough but yeah looking at it there are only a couple players there with solid footing in the org..  I suppose if by the start of next year the 8 college pitchers will be in A+/A maybe the 2 2nd rounders in A ball and then a good start to a rookie ball rotation. It doesn't make a lot more sense now looking at rookie ball and Dominican league staff.

Add in a few free agent arm we will sign like KC Hunt as well.

Will there be any high school pitchers left after we are done drafting?

How many of the 21 2023 draft picks signed? How many of the 16 pitchers signed?

Like many MLB drafts, you need to withhold initial judgement until at least August 1st.  There were definitely some lottery tickets today, but they must feel really good about signing the day one picks, as we didn't see any $2 million HS pitcher 'backup plans' taken today.

I wonder how many of these guys were the Cooper Pratt style of pick where the crew had an offer in mind and ran it by the high schoolers before selecting them. They have a history of really strong signing rates but this'll be fascinating to follow
