Ahhhhhh for Kripes. I tried to be a team player. But, it turns out I'm just an imposter. @homeris the real McCoy!

I actually waited a min or two because I thought someone else would post it!

With Smith signed that leaves $585,580 left in bonus pool money. We have heard zero rumors of the others signing, so I guess we wait and see. Nunnallee is surely off the board now, but maybe Wech, Brummel, or Malamazian sign.

Malamazian please, but also Wech would be a fun follow

No Wech. He's headed to college. So Malamazian and Brummel are the only options.

Should be noted that the two guys we are waiting on (Malamazian and Brummel) are both committed to Indiana. Same as our 9th pick, Griffin Tobias.

Indiana U Baseball fans must absolutely loath the Brewers haha.

They are done?!?! Embarrassing. Not using the 5% overage shows either poor planning or just cheaping out. Gross gross class.

Jesus Made be your namesake and turn this water this year into wine baby.

Very grateful last years class has been as perceived and we’ve been killing the international scouting. Very disappointed with this class. Tons of assets going into next years draft, have to do better than this.

They've not used up the 5% overage before. I believe that happened in 2019 where they didn't even spend up to the bonus pool assigned to them let alone the 5% overage. Also happened in 2018 where they didn't spend to 5% overage the limit but did go over the pool assigned to them.

Done or not, this year’s draft has been pretty subpar. We reach for Payne with the expectation that we’ll swing for the fences later, and then we fail to sign the guys we swung for the fences for. On top of that, I don’t think going, “We… hope we could sign this guy? I dunno lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯“ on a high pick is a sound strategy even if we do end up with an extra pick next year. And if we’re truly done signing, the fact that we didn’t even use all the money we can means that someone fumbled on estimating what we can afford. A bumbling mess on each step.

Someone needs to have a “Dude, ***” talk with Tod Johnson.

Agreed I bet we see some pop up arms because ya know it's the Brewers. But hard to be happy with this haul especially with the abundance of pool money they had. The team better lock in for next year with what should be more money.

In other news Tod Johnson to the IL with a shoulder strain... from reaching on Payne in the first. I'm just kidding, but I do not understand that pick at all now. I really hope Payne proves me wrong, but I do not see the vision here with that profile. Not using the overage is really baffling me too.

The Brewers spent within $200 of their alloted pool and we're crucifying them because they didn't spend their overage (which is taxed).

They left $580K on the table.  Whoop-dee-doo.  That's not going to make any difference in their draft class.

As a general rule I will not overreact or have a single reaction to this or any draft class until I see game logs/box scores/ and or (preferrably) MiLB.TV viewings. Reacting to a class based on any consensus beyond actually watching these players play is an absurd tactic IMHO.

That amount easily could have made a difference. With other guys that were available at the top couple picks. 🤷‍♂️ It changes the whole calculus of things. When you reach for a player like Payne the expectation is to go balls out on some blue chip guys. They arguably got one in Meccage but whiffed on Levonas.

While this is true this draft class definitely does seem an instant success like last years did at this point. Seems like Brewers tried to replicate last years strategy and were not nearly as successful at the execution as they were last season.

The intellectual side sees and agrees with all of that. I've made that same argument.

Emotional side though this kicking my intellectual side in the head.

I mean, seriously folks. For crying out loud:

Take a dose of perspective. Take a breath. AND, calmly acknowledge and realize despite the over-reactions and despite the commentaries...this is THE best Era of Brewers baseball we have ever been a part of. I hope this draft class builds on that.

I think that is a fair statement. And, honestly, I think that is the most reasonable take. And, beyond that, there really just isn't all that much more. They took a swing at Levonas. They gathered insurance along the way. Some of that insurance didn't pan out. They accrued another comparable pick in next year's draft that is widely considered to simply be a more talented pool of prospects. It seems like they double-insured with that pick to be honest. Take the BPA. If he doesn't sign? You have essentially the same selection in a much deeper pool of talent in a year's time after you clearly just hit the International Signings out of the park.
