So 3 of the 1st 37 picks? And 5 of the 1st 68.  Another potentially franchise-altering  draft taking shape?

The competitive balance pick, the QO picks for Adames, and the pick for not signing Meccage - plus the normal first and second rounders - is that how we get 5 of top 68?

And essentially 6 of top 110ish.

Yes but I think you meant to say Levonas who we didn’t sign with the 67th pick.  So I think we get the 68th pick as a replacement.   According to Baseball America, this year’s draft is supposedly shaping to be better on paper (at least at this early projection).

You mean Levonas? They signed Meccage.

Yup. Austin Tatious pointed that out — momentary brain lapse.

Excited to see what Meccage can do, and what we do with the extra pick for Levonas.

If you apply the 2025 projected picks for the Brewers to the 2024 draft slot values then the Brewers would have the 5th largest bonus pool.

Did we move up to 20 in the draft or is that where we were supposed to be?  Sorry if I’m behind ….

Where we are supposed to be. Playoff teams are locked into their spot.

Because the Brewers have been good I haven't paid much attention to the draft lottery, but wow. That system is god-awful.

It is clumsy, and was trying to help create balance and incentives to win. So it was a reaction (over-reaction?) to teams tanking and owners not trying build competitive teams, as well as another way to penalize the super rich teams.

Since the Brewers are a small market club and trying to win, it seems like a good system for us fans, we moved up a few slots a couple years back when we missed the '22 playoffs, and those extra slots meant more bonus pool in the 2023 epic draft, so I kind of like the system for that. But yes, there are a lot of rules, and some seem to be overly punitive. But I also don't worry about the LA/Chicago/NY/Boston teams getting penalized in the draft since every year they can sign FAs to create mini All Star Teams (just look at the last WS).

I roll my eyes at it, but whatever, the union wanted it as an anti-tanking measure, the league thought they could use it to create an offseason story. Win-win for them, and teams still need to do their homework so they don't screw it up. It doesn't bother me that much.

I actually like the system, probably because it is favorable to the Brewers who are a small market that tries to compete every year. On the off chance we don't make the playoffs we at least have a small probability to hop in the top 6.

I do feel bad for fans of teams that have horrible ownership like the White Sox, Marlins, Pirates, etc. Scouting and development have become even more important under the new format because you can't be bailed out by a guaranteed run of top 5 picks. Horrible owners just don't invest in the scouting and development to their own detriment.

Same with International Free Agents.

I love the current system because it seems to benefit us, as we seem to be doing some wacky stuff the past few years.

So the Brewers will get pick #'s 20, 29, and 30 per MLB.com.  Should be fun!

Believe there will be a few more Comp A picks awarded for Burnes. Santander and Walker (if they sign with new clubs) so the Brewers will have two picks between #29 and #33 but the exact number of those picks isn’t quite set yet.

But yes, should be fun!

Having the number of picks they do in the range they have them is obviously quite scintillating but I would also remind us all: this upcoming draft is universally seen as a better and deeper draft than last year's. That is also quite zesty!

I understand that the Levonas pick is nice to have this year.

But doesn't the knowledge that a team MUST sign the pick or lose it forever negate a lot of leverage? Is that destined to be a senior? You can't pick some overslot guy, only to have the agent hold the team ransom?

Although, I suppose at that point it the team bails on the pick and signs a bunch of 11-20 round high schoolers.

Man, this off-season is going to be interminable. Can't Spring Training just get here already???

Right, that pick must be signed or it doesn't carry over. I suspect it will be an underslot player, which serves two purposes - makes sure we get a player we like, and then use the money saved on that and likely another first or early second day pick and then use it for the 11-20 rounders.

Burnes and Walker were already figured in to that.  Santander would drop Milwaukee to 30/31.
