So, not a serious offer. I think they knew they had no chance of getting him.

Yeah... he's definitely not worth giving up for a 6.

With this defense, the run game, I'm pretty confident he could keep us in just about any game in the regular season and win games vs teams like the Browns or Cowboys.

That's an insult...not an offer.

Did they change the kicking footballs?  The ball seems to be moving in weird ways.  Almost like it has some late movement.

I believe that I recently read that they changed the K-ball rules.  Before, kickers and punters could play with them just a little bit during pregame.  But now, the restrictions are gone.  Kickers and punters can truly break in the k-balls to their specifications during the week, warm up with them on the sideline, etc.

The article went on to explain that this is why there is a rise in 55+yard field goal attempts this year and why coaches are fine with kickers trying 60+ like it’s nothing.

wish I could remember where I read that, though

Well, we got Willis for a 7th round pick... In a vacuum (i.e. just looking at Willis' value), he is a FA next year and probably not a future starter - certainly not for the Bengals.

But Willis on the current Packer's team is pretty valuable for insurance purposes (ironically the very reason the Bengals wanted to trade for him).  We have pretty high hopes for a SB, so he needs to stay.  But if we were a 500 team, would we scoff at trading a backup QB that we probably won't retain next year for a 6th?

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Detroit still looks like the class of the division even though we were able to dump them week one.

Yeah, I still like our chances but it’s not like weeks 1-2 when we were saying “oh we should win the North.”

I don’t think the Vikings and Bears will be in the mix though. May come down to the rematch in Detroit.

The Lions look much better than when we faced them in Week 1.

There's a lot more talent on that team than there is in the Packers and they're better coached.

that's why you go for it on 4th down

I know people don’t want to hear it, but Campbell’s approach is usually right and analytically correct.

People can say “he hasn’t won anything like that” but just like the Brewers haven’t won anything like that, there’s a lot of luck and circumstance involved in professional sports.

It doesn’t mean the process is wrong. It means that “the way things are done” becomes an engrained part of professional sports and those traditions are incredibly hard for coaches to break away from. It wasn’t that long ago that most teams punted on 4th and 2 from the 50. It wasn’t that long ago that the smartest baseball minds in the world thought that pitcher wins and batter RBIs were very important measurements.

I think a ton of why the Lions recreated last night has to do with all the Ravens' defensive injuries upfront.  The Ravens were missing some studs in their front 7.  When Goff can be a statue and their run game gets going, the Lions have plenty of weapons to move the ball and look unstoppable.  Limit the running game/short passing game to Gibbs early and make Goff move and that's a totally different looking offense.

The Ravens, IMO, are overrated.  They found a way to blow a double digit late 4th quarter lead against the Bills in Week 1 themselves.

It's early, and in the NFL you're only as good as your last game - if the Lions run up 40 points and 450 yards of offense against Cleveland next Sunday (in Detroit) against the front the Packers just faced, then things start looking like Week 1 was an aberration and the Lions should be favored to win this division again.  I think the odds are pretty low for that happening on the back of a 200+ yard rushing day against that Browns front, though.  Wouldn't surprise me if it's a home blowout, but that's more on that Cleveland "offense" being on the road and likely setting the Lions up with short fields/turnovers and not doing much of their own on the scoreboard.

Is anyone arguing this? Yeah, he's usually right. That's not something I don't want to hear.

They set the Ravens up perfectly that last series.

And Harbaugh probably goes for 2 if they get the stop and they score the TD. He's also usually right...

Wasn't MLF "analytically" correct by kicking the FG vs the Buccs in the NFCCG?

-That's really appropos of nothing, just trying to remember.

I'd feel a helluva lot better if I was Detroit playing with Sewell blocking Garrett vs... Morgan and Belton(who was the best of the worst pass blocking in MLF's tenure).

If Cleveland plays as much Man and Cover 1 Man at that, I think they'll hit some big plays and probably get some takeaways and coast at home... but I do not think they'll be running the ball well.

Anyway, snap counts thus far this year. Some things I found... a bit odd. The 3 WR sets last week. The Disjointed OL will hopefully be cleaned up after Tom sits out this week and comes back after the Bye.

It was a very silly assumption after 1 game especially when we have seen the Packers lose by 30 in Week 1 to Jameis Winston. The division will be the same dogfight it has been. That we drew them Week 1 at home was a generous gift from the NFL. I think we're definitely better suited to push for first this year, but I was skeptical from the get-go that we were this unstoppable force.

In week 2 last season, the Eagles lost to the Falcons...at home.

The Vikings are SO lucky.

Just turned on the game at 9:30.  Forgot all about it I see Pitt up 14-6 at the half. Aaron Rodgers doing OK so far.

Yeah, I was talking about the lost fumble for a touchdown coming back because Mason touched the ball while lying out of bounds. The Steelers clearly the better team today. Another team that the Packers should be concerned about with their defense.

Not sure what the zebras are looking at on the interception in the Detroit game.

First off that was clear pass interference or holding.

Then he used the ground to complete the catch

That was really bad.
