I couldn't tell by the explanation by the rules expert, but is the ball considered part of the body in this situation or was he touched before the ball?

The ball is considered part of the body.  Knee was down so any contact makes the player down by contact.

I was happy to see the Vikings look terrible now I am happy to see the Bears meltdown and blow it. Not sure why I am watching this game, hate both teams. I have to hand it to the NFL, they deliver far and away the best product in spectator sports.

Ok, maybe McCarthy has a little something. Not a fan of that development, if he is for real.

But I am all in favor of the Bear fans being let down again. That’s cool. I had waaaaaay too many of them try to talk trash to me today, of all days, after the Packers looked as good as they did yesterday. To have this game right in front of them for three quarters and then just melt for a whole quarter is very satisfying.

Yes, especially after a second straight offseason of hearing how great the Bears are going to be. I mean, if not for a Packer coaching meltdown they would have finished last season with a 10 game losing streak. They add a couple of aging guards and the hype starts all over again.

So far, Caleb Williams = a more athletic Ryan Leaf

They’re the most delusional fan base in football. Add a couple more weapons for Caleb, draft Loveland at #10 and then Burden in the early 2nd who doesn’t look close to ready, and continue to neglect the gaping holes in the trenches on the roster while the skill player rookies sit on the sidelines, and they think they’re back every year. Rinse and repeat.

Caleb looks frantic in the pocket on every down, always looking to run instead of pass. Not sure if he’s just a bust or if the Bears have doomed him by not putting their line development before their skill players.

You can have the best weapons in football on the outside, but if your qb's internal clock is always sped up and he throws a great ball nowhere near where it needs to be for a guy to actually catch it, it does you no good.

The biggest knock on Williams coming out as a prospect was that he often didnt take the easy completion or go through progressions/throw on time - and spent most of his time trying to make plays in a scramble drill/after a play broke down.  Things just seem more pressured than they actually are in his mind - wondering if the new geek coach's complex offensive system is going to do more harm than good in year 2 for Caleb.

Yep. It’s basically the opposite of the problem of no pass rush. You can have the best corners in football. If they have to cover for 10-15 seconds, it no longer matters. Someone is going to get open.

Fixed that for you.  Ever since '85...

So... wouldn't that be the 40th straight offseason?

Math and lunch... didn't mix well. 🤦‍♂️

He is a guy that can get very hot but can go ice cold just as quickly. I wonder if he will do better during scripted portions of the game and have issues when the defense adjusts? One thing in his favor is that he is elusive as hell. He will need to be with that O line.

I still believe Ben Johnson is going to develop Caleb Williams into a very good player.

I just think... Detroit is a REALLY good Football team. I think they'll get better as the season goes on... but because I mostly just care about the Packers, this makes me feel even better about the Week1 Game.

No. That can't be. I have been assured, that OL is elite!

Though, to be honest, I also thought they were a LOT better as well...

I wonder what the moment was for most Bears today that the realization sunk in that they’re going to suck again.

They still have that off season dynasty to hang their hat on.serious way GIF

I'm looking at the ole' Bears message board, and it seems they've finally figured out that Darnell Wright just isn't very good,  But Pro Football Focus will probably have all of those Bear offensive linemen with good grades.
