I can’t foresee the Brewers getting an offer for Patrick right now that is greater than his value as a guy they can shuttle between Nashville and Milwaukee for the next 3 years. Maybe he could be part of a larger deal though

If he stays reliable, and pitches like he has so far, there is no real reason why he can't remain in the rotation on a regular basis.

What about Jake Bauers (maybe throw in small 2nd piece) for David Hamilton. The Sox need 1B help we need IF help. Hamilton could be an upside SS add that is familiar with our system and some players. EMJ could come platoon 1st and even play some OF if he still has it.

I'm for anything that gets Bauers gone, and EMJ up on the big squad hitting dingers!

Be a bummer trading the best pitcher on our staff though...

If the Brewers don't get into playoff contention, they have to hope that the veteran starting pitchers get back and pitch relatively well. They could potentially pick up some nice prospects with a quick re-tooling.

Pitching always gets a nice return

Except for the Williams deal, apparently.

Hoskins to Boston for Yophery Rodriguez, John Holobetz, and a competitive balance pick.

unless I'm missing something, Boston doesn't get a competitive balance pick and if Boston did acquire one in trade from someone else, that pick is unable to be dealt a 2nd time...

That is what we traded to Boston for Priester in the widely unpopular move...

They meant getting our comp pick back, that we traded to Boston.

Thanks for the clarifications.  Honestly I forgot the Brewers had included its Comp Pick in the deal with Boston earlier this year

To clarify my point from earlier: unlike other sports where picks can be dealt multiple times and even re-acquired by the original team, the baseball Comp picks dealt cannot be dealt a 2nd time (even going back to the original team that sent it away),

It sure looks like a cheap rotation next year with the likes of Myers/Patrick/Gasser/Mis/Henderson/Priester and maybe Peralta if not traded. Hope the likes of Woodruff, Civale and Cortes can get healthy and show some production before the trade deadline and Quintana can keep it up. If they continue to hover around .500 it wouldn't be hard to justify trading Peralta if the right deal comes along. Wouldn't hesitate to trade 31 year old Megill, Koenig and Payamps either. Could be a great opportunity for the Brewers this season if they play their cards right, make or break time for Arnold.

Could even throw Mears in there if they are in a position to sell. He's not as old as those other three RP but with 2 more years of control after this season it wouldn't be the end of the world to sell especially if he's still lights out and potentially really valuable for RP standards.

Would we be able to pry Josh Jung (or Josh Smith) away from Texas? They have lots of pitching needs especially bullpen help maybe OF help when Mitchell is back. With Josh Smith, Seager, and Semien as well as Duran and prospects they could let Jung (or Smith) go. It might be a good chance to turn some quantity into quality. Would Payamps, Peguero, and Perkins for Jung be to much trash for a quality player.

Rule of thumb is normally three players that have little value are not traded for one player that has decent value.

Buster Olney at ESPN says the Brewers could be "opportunists" this year at the deadline.  Floats the idea that someone like Peralta could be a big deal (although adds that Attanasio's value of making the playoffs could lead the team in another path)

I do think that if they come into the deadline .500 or a few games below that they should definitely consider selling.

The NL is very strong this year. I wouldn't hate selling the vets and letting some of the kids play so we know what we have for next season. (Assuming our playoff odds are low)

If trading Peralta at the deadline means we rake in a better haul for him, I say let's do it.  Especially if we are far out of the WC hunt by that time.

Odds are, we are going to shop him in the off season anyway.

Brewers could also gain some payroll space after the season and offer Peralta an extension. My opinion on such an extension, of course, would depend on the numbers, but I sense that Attanasio values leadership in various roles throughout an organization, and I can imagine an organizational desire to invest in a clubhouse leader on the pitching staff like Peralta. I also feel like Freddy's next contract will age well. He seems like a real pro that takes care of himself and can be a marketable star for this organization.

If we trade him now we should be able to get much more with the acquiring team having him for two playoff runs. This team just isn't good and the more prospects the better right now.

I'm fine resigning him but if not we should trade him when his value is at its highest.

Finding a recent trade to gauge value is tough for Freddy, We should get more than for Burnes because he has the extra 1/2 year, although he isn't really an ace. I would really prefer a package with like 2 high quality players/prospects than on with like 1 good prospect and 3 other nice pieces. I think we really need to think quality over quantity on any deadline deals this year.

I think Luis Castillo is about as close as you can get for a comp. Pretty good match in terms of value/control
